I am looking for a 512 TR. Obviously, the market has gone up significantly over the last 2 years. Prices vary by upwards of $100,000 between listings. Any insight on where this market is going from here? Guessing stable to up.

    Any thoughts appreciated.

    Yes stable to up.
Market had big gains COVID to December last year.
This year holding steady and slightly down except the 512TR
    My Daytona down 4.26%
    550 down 8.40%
    812sf down 5.31%
    And the 512TR UP 8.55%
Great car and every year they get better.

Still considered by most to be selling at a discount. Buy now and forget about it. More importantly enjoy a car that is not easily replaced by some other car. Buy the best one you can afford. The red 1992 on Bat looks like a good possibility.

It's a car. Buy it, enjoy it, drive it. Most you can lose is 100% of its value (+) maintenance.

It’s better mechanically and cosmetically than the base TR, and far more rare, and better looking (IMO) than the F512M, so they should remain stable and strong long term. Michael Jordan’s black one still haunts my dreams.

Definitely disagree that it is selling at a discount. 512TR has historically carried just a slight premium over the Standard TR prior to the speculative mania that began in 2014. There are cars listed as low as 160 all the way to 400. Nobody has a clue what these things are worth, they're all over the place thanks to the speculative crowd that hoards them warehouses. 300 grand fora 512tr is a joke of a price, there's no reason for a 512TR to be trading at the same price as a Boxer.

I agree that any Boxer variant should be worth way, way more than any TR version, but I get why the market disagrees. Sonny Crockett is a bigger pop culture influencer than Sammy Hagar. If a Miura SV can sell for three times a P400, then a 512TR can easily sell for 2 times a TR. Explain to me how an Enzo-engined 599 is same price as a little 'dino' v8 355. The heart wants what the heart wants.

Until 2-3 years ago, the difference between the TR, 512TR, 512M was minimal.
Latter 2 pumped in the US (double Batty plus good) resulting in almost a doubling of the prices in around 6 months.

Euro cars imported and flipped routinely. Online platforms make social engineering and more traditional forms of shilling nice and easy.

The heart mostly wants what other people want ... and "it will double in 6 months" (Bat)

My sense of history is the wide price diff between the three TR versions has existed for much more than 2 years, but I don't have data to stand my ground.

Jake, yes, the 512TR is pretty hard to replace as an iconic Ferrari that can be driven. I don't know what I will replace it with going forward. We'll see how the auction finishes up. Thanks for your comments.

That was my car. The history of the car was completely documented at the time of the accident, and disclosed in meticulous detail in the auction listing. The car was repaired correctly. It also came with complete ownership and service records for the last 20+ years, and all of the desired accessories like pouch, manuals, tool kit, car cover, etc. Plus the original muffler and parts from the last major service. The prior owner to me, who actually completed the restoration, bought the car back.

Here is the car at the FCA National Meet in 2018.

Definitely, a disappointing outcome for the seller. Certainly, increases the argument for diminished value if you are hit by another driver. Maybe a partial solution would be to enter a car with a bad carfax history in a few judged concours, and hopefully it would score well. Meanwhile if you wanted a nice 512 to drive the wheels off of, this was the one to buy!!!

It seems any little thing regarding these cars drastically affects value. Mileage, history of the car, etc. Even if the condition otherwise is exceptional. But I do think one day those things will relax a little and won’t play such a big part of value. But we will see.

Unfortunately, that will never be the case except cars with extreme rarity/demand ratio. Just in the past few weeks, an F40 sold for about 1/2 the going rate because of history/condition.

I own an extremely rare car (142 built on a one year only design refresh) that had a CarFax blemish that required a $6,500 repair (in other words nothing). I demanded and got a 15% discount (3X repair cost), and I’m sure that if I tried to move it today I would probably have to eat a 10% discount (7X repair cost now)…..quite a lot for a bumper dent/repaint.

Yes, got it. I guess wishful thinking. Yeah that’s unfortunate. Sorry to hear that too about your car. But you were able to get a discount which was worth it for you.

Don’t feel bad for me, the value has increased 3X in the 10 years of ownership. When I was shaking the owner (seller) down for a discount for a $6,500 stoplight bump from 11 years before, he complained that if he only knew how important a CarFax would become he wouldn’t have turned in a claim…..which is what we all do these days for minor incidents I imagine.
