Well, you have just asked a hemophiliac for a pint of blood. There have probably been dozens of this thread made, if not hundreds.

The quick answer - do you feel lucky? It will need it eventually, but not every 3 years.

I do mine at about 7 years.

There are a million opinions on this.

As long as there is no contamination of the belts by oil or coolant I have no problem going 5- 7 years, especially if the idler pulley bearings were changed the last time the belts were changed, preferably with Hill Engineering units.

If you have no idea when the idler pulley bearings were changed I would be looking more closely at the situation.
Very often the idler pulley bearings are the cause of belt failure

The only other reason you might want to change sooner is if you drive more than 30,000 miles in that period.

Anyone have a documented failure on a TR?

I read the 308 forum for years and years....the only failure I ever read about was 150 miles after a belt change when a coin (yes magic coin) some how bounced in, hit the pulley and cut the belt. (Fascinating if you can find the thread)

I have not been stalking this section long enough, so I was curious. And yes, I know that everyone has their opinion on belts, but I wanted to know about a real life failure.

And yes.....I would be more scared of a diff failure than a belt failure.

Statistically, I feel it would be crazy to do an engine out service without addressing the transmission.
