Does anyone know if there is a difference between the header outlets on a 512BB (carb) Boxer and a 512BBi (injected) Boxer? My car is a 1983 512BBi, but a company who built me a custom muffler system is trying to tell me that my headers are actually from a carb BB and that is why their mufflers -will not fit- my car. I'm having a hard time believing them because of the documented history of my car and the fact that the outlets look like they would match up to a Tubi muffler for a 512BBi. Does anyone know if there is really a difference between the two cars? Ferrari UK lists the exact same part#s for both the BBi and the BB exhaust manifolds on their site. So that seems to mean Ferrari used the same on both models. Here are pictures of my header outlets. -Both- Left side only Right side only Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
The ends look exactly the same as my headers on my BB, the exhausts may be different with different mounting points on the rear lattice frame. Part no's being the same they should be identical.
i can only imagine how cool that would sound to fire it up like that! i know ya cant drive it like that, as it would burn the exhaust valves, but i bet to let it idle for a few minutes it would sound AWESOME! good luck in your exhaust search.
Factory sports ansa exhausts have different manifolds to stock system. I'd guess the suppliers muffler matches up to a sports header set, not stock system.....or, you have a sports header set and theirs is made to fit a std set, I'm not sure by looking at the photos.
365BB system will fit to a ANSA sports system. 512 manifold's are smaller in diameter compared to a 365 system. Therefore the ANSA sports system uses a 365 system to adapt to there Ansa muffler system. Why would you bother with a 512 header system for performance gains?
I have looked into this very issue as I was trying to replace my poorly modified-for-federalization headers so I could retro-fit an original exhaust on the car. There are sport system headers that apparently are different, not sure how exactly, but if you look on your car, there is a plate welded on each part with the p/n. If it is sequentially 110001 through 110004, you have original, four can system headers. Carb'ed headers should fit, although as far as I could tell, they were made of mild steel whereas the injected headers were made with stainless. That may only have been what the factory had in stock at the time and not necessarily a function of the design, however. We all know how Maranello improvised with what was there as production rolled on. Perhaps Frank can look under his BBi and see what p/n he has on his headers since we all know he has the two can sport set up. That should end the mystery and provide you with the facts to be able to go back to them.
Out of curiousity I looked at mine, looking from the back of the car the top left were 11003 then 11001 bottom then to the right 11001 top then 11002 bottom, definately made of steel
Gary I belive the carb and the injected models used the same headers, the Borla system I had on the my 78 before the Tubis were removed from an 83 and bolted on with no modifications. Randy
