when changing exhaust manifold gaskets on a 512bb, can it be done w/ engine still in place?
Absolutely...as the engine cannot be removed from the car with the exhaust manifolds on (still attached to the engine). To replace either the 4-6 header gaskets, or the 7-9 header gaskets, the front headers on the corresponding side must be removed first to gain access. And, naturally, the mufflers and chassis cross-over brace must be removed first. Yes?? I think you meant no...Yes? Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi David, I meant "yes" to his question about "engine still in place". Off the main topic - I was able to pull the shift shaft out with the headers in place. Pretty cramped and no fun! BTW: That's your car. Georgeous!!!
I pulled these about a month ago with the engine in place to replace the differential side cover gasket. I bought a set of 1/4" wobble extensions from Harbor Freight for around $12 that were a life saver. A conventional 3/8" U-joint extension will be too close to the header when on the 12mm nut. Not really that tough of a job but your hands will get banged up a little. drew
