I've been thinking that the wheel clearance (that is from the top of the tyre to the bottom of the wheel arch) looks too big on my carb 512. I'm wondering if a previous owner has put stiff springs or something although can find nothing in the service history. Rear gap (from top of tyre to underside of flared metal wheel arch is 4inches and 3.5 on the front. Is this too big or ok ??????

Yes I thought that . It looks higher than my 365BB. Could you do me a favour a measure your gap sometime Paul? I think I'm going to have to order up a new set of custom springs to whatever mine are less the difference to the correct gap ie about 1.5 inches shorter. Like I said I think someone has fitted uprated but not lowered springs. I had this on my 308GTB fibreglass - I ordered a set of lowered 400lb springs to replace the existing. Put them on and the car sat up just like the 512. Turned out that they made a mistake in the manufacture and didn't make them shorter. The result was the extra stiffness at the same spring height meant the car didn't sit down as far.

D'oh! 4-1/4" top of wheel to wheel lip. 29-1/4" from ground to wheel opening. For some reason yours still looks too high.

Hmm, interesting. Maybe mine looks wrong because I've got mud all over my tyres! Are you running on Michelin XWX's?

Nice car.. looks good minus the mud. lol. Keep in mind that while driving she is going to squat a tad under load and from down force. She looks o.k. to me. Measurements from another car would be aces of course.

    Be well

Man, Paul your car looks great. You diggin' out from under all that snow yet?

John, would love to see pics of your 365, especially comparison of rear wheel well between your 512 and 365.

    Best, William

Thanks william! took that shot at the cottage last summer, the roads to get up there are made for a ferrari! Still waiting for the snow to go and my fuel pumps which are supposed to arrive today via UPS. Its warmer but not warm enough.

Hmmm, I just measured my 79 carbed car, with pretty new stock XWX tires.
    Front 2 3/4" and rear 3 1/4".
It has newish Koni's, but orginal springs as far as I know, so maybe they're sagging some.

The carbed cars had cast iron blocks only the injected cars got the aluminum ones, that would explain the sag hehehe.

Some dolt put 308 springs in my 512BB and it had a huge gap like yours as they are way too stiff and dont compress with the weight of the car, replaced them with eibach race springs which were 1/2 the weight as well, big improvement in handling and less bouncy at the rear here's a pic

Thanks for the input all. Sounds like it could have the wrong springs. Do you have the model no or dimensions and poundage for the eibach springs? Thank would be much appreciated. Paul and 512Nevada - your cars look really good. Could do with some of those Palm trees and blue skies in England right now! Will post pic of 365BB gap and dimensions tomorrow but it definately looks less.

Im torn on lowering mine, I like the ride quality and have no fear crossing train tracks at speed. The car just never bottoms out or scrubs the chin spoiler. The day I lower it ill tear the spoiler off on a curb and kick myself.

Been awhile but I believe 8in spg 3.5 diameter 130 lbs each spg for the rear BB Rides better than my 355, do need to watch the spoiler as its low but uut really makes the car look low wide and aggressive
