512BBi: Anyone with experience upgrading from CIS?

    I fished around a little here, searched on "CIS upgrade," but found nothing.

    About 9 years ago, a Bay Area F-tech Adam Cox told me that upgrading the CIS to a modern injection system would cost about $10K total and "dramatically" improve performance. That was the estimate in 2001.

    Has anyone here had done this sort of thing on a BBi? If Yes, what was the cost, and what were the results?

    (I also asked Adam about upgrading to a Brembo brake system, but could not locate all the Brembo parts for a Boxer.)

    In order for a different system to "dramatically" improve performance will require pulling the motor to change cams. By the time you get a set of cams or regrind yours and do the major service that you will be doing once the motor is out will eat up the ten grand and then some.
    We haven't even started talking about the new injection system yet.


    And that does not even take into account the depreciation the BB will take for getting modified and the fact that it has just been removed from the California market.


    Cheaper to sell the BB and buy a TR512.

    Heh heh, thanks Brian. Will leave as is and keep it. I like it too much to change for a 512TR. It has plenty enough power, but I was curious about "dramatically" improved performance merely by changing to a modern injection system.
