I have a 1984 512BBI that I put away last fall in my heated garage and it was running fine with only 1000 miles on new clutch.I just took it out for a spin and around 4000rpm it slips when I punch it.No fluid leaks.Anyone know what could be the problem?

    Hi........

Slippage is either a result of 1) low coefficient of friction or 2) low pressure on the disc.......or both !!

Did you have the flywheel surfaced and the pressure plate replaced as part of the "clutch work" ??

I have a 1983 bbi, it went through three clutches in two years from sitting.. Right not driving sitting. I didnt have these problems but the previous owner did.. I was reading over the service and he would have the car towed in the shop, have the clutch fixed and towed home.. Than he would get in the car a month or two later and it would be frozen.. yada yada after three clutch he said you have to drive it frequenly. I'll look up the records. to get desciptive.

Clutches wear out due to 4 reasons only:

    1) stated by Frank

    2) stated by Frank

    3) improper use.......bad driver habits

    4) normal wear

I had my BBi for 3 years now. I replaced the clutch once, due to normal wear, by the PO and myself.

The car is stored for 6 months, in the Winter, in a cold shed and I have no problems with clutches, in the coming Spring. This is true of the 8 Ferraris that I have owned.

I just can't see how a clutch can go bad, just from sitting!!!!!!!!!!!!! Unless it sits so long, that rust starts up and destroys the discs............but this should take more than a year, or two.

We have had them rust solid on many occasions and no matter how bad they were once we broke them loose and drove the car around the block everything was fine.

Fried clutches in Ferraris are almost always caused by driver abuse or misuse. In over 120,000 miles in 6 different Ferraris, I have never had to replace a clutch. While the clutch needed replacing in my current Boxer before I bought it, I have driven in over 10k km since in over 2 1/2 years with no problems.

    Hi.........

Major problem with non-use of a Boxer: clutch disc adhesion to flywheel !!!

Might be easily "broken free" or might require disassembly. If only "broken free", there may be disc material left on the flywheel surface, which is not good for clutch performance and/or life span.

Drive it !!!! Or at least start it and exercise the clutch disc and pressure plate.
