Hey guys, was wondering if 512Ms are legitimate $90-100k cars? Judging from most ads, you'll see 512 TRs selling for $125k+, but I know a guy who bought a nice low mileage '92 for $80k 3 years ago. I also love the 512 TR, and wonder if $80-90k is the real world buying price amongst private parties.

All you see are dealers ads asking the world for these cars, but I was just curious if the 512M was lower.

It's rarer than the other TRs, but also suffers from some critical points, mainly cosmetic. As far as mechanicals are concerned, it is the best TR ever made, with a beefier transmission as well. I believe it's also the lightest.

Could anyone speak on the performance/handling differences of the 512M vs. the 512 TR, and maybe the Countach QV as well?? It's not quite a Diablo in performance, but should be up there!

If I ever got an M, I'd swap out the rims, take the cats off, slap on a kriessieg exhaust and be chillin!

    :)

Ive been hunting down another 512TR, and while dealers all seem to be asking $100 - $125K, the realworld prices seem to be more in the $80- 100K range (depending on year, mileage, condition). The 512M's are definately going for a $30K - 50K premium over that.

Have these reached the point where they are now becoming collectors items and rising in price or are they still depreciating.

512TR's have still been coming down a little over the last few years. The 512m seems to be holding pretty steady. Not very many in the US though (95?) so it's not like there is a huge sample size out there.

One thing that's going to help the 512M and 512TR values IMO is that a slightly newer, used 550 isn't really the same thing.

That yellow TR is bloody gorgeous - I swore I would get a red one when I sell the yellow Spider... but!

How is the US spec different from Euro? Apart from the dodgy side indicators on the bumpers/fenders.

Steve - I think he means purely subjective cosmetic points. Like me, I appreciate the M is the better car, I just don't like the revised front and back end.

Hey Steve, what's up?? I take it you're an M owner right? If so, cool!

I didn't mean to be critical of the M. In fact when I wrote what I wrote, I was pretty much speaking on behalf of the people who aren't fond of the headlights, rims, (and some ppl don't approve of the round taillights).

Me on the other hand, I like the way the M looks (although I think the rims should be changed). I prefer the pop up look, but the clear lamps work. The round taillights add a nice unique touch to the TR line. The interior, IMHO, is undeniably the best of the TR. Having a very rare Ferrari is a big asset these days, as everyone seems to have a 360.

Could you give me some driving impressions of the M vs. the 512 TR?? I'm interested in hearing how much better it is.

    hi
Nothing up i thought you new of some faults with the cars that i had not heard of its each to there own on looks but i dont like the wheels on the f512m or the standard seats the engine cover is also different on the F512M to the tr
Cant see as there is much difference in driving either car on the road that you would notice but there might be some difference if you was tracking them both
you could get tr wheels as a no cost extra when new and sports seats that cost a fortune piccys to show

anything you need to know click on this link its amazing

You have asked for some driving impressions or comparisons between the 512TR and the F512M, and being a cuurent 512TR owner and with experince in a frind's 512M, the road driving characteristics are about the same, except the M has stiffer shock valving, which gives the car a little more jitter and bounce on normal highway/interstate roads. Some may feel this gets somewhat uncomfortable on a long journey, and some might say the stiffer shocks gives the car a "skidish" feeling. With perfomance style driving, or track time driving, the car gives you more of a "twitchie" feeling at or near the limit, making the car slightly more difficult to drive, or giving you a feeling that improved driver skills are needed to drive at the limit. It's somewhat difficult to describe overall, but the M just feels more solid and tighter in comparison.

On any journey, either short or long, the 512TR is simply a pleasure, and you never get tired, aching muscles or anything like that. With a Tubi and some sort of cat replacement device (like with mine), the exhaust note never becomes overbearing and you can carry on a normal conversation at triple digit speeds in complete comfort, unless full throttle is employed, then you just savor the 12 cyclinder music.

The front bonet of the M with the two NACA ducts and the exposed lights really give it a F40 type of look in my opinion. However, I find that the headlights in the M are not adequate as in most USA DOT lighting, but find a simple upgrade of the bulbs corrects the issue. For the 512TR, I upgraded to the Euro lenses and bulbs.

The 512M was the last and best of the Testarossa, and may become a collector's item in 10-15 years. In any case, aside from the styling changes on the M, the M's engine is a real "piece of kit" and what makes the car special in my opinion.
