I know that when you start the engine on 512TR it often coughs out a bit of a smoke but the question here is that even when the engine is very warmed, may be after a 20 minutes drive, when in neutral and I gas it then I saw from my rear-view mirror that this caused smoke coming out from rear end.
    Is this normal?

P'Zane, my TR did that once in a while. But after a new set of spark plugs, I got a lot less smoke. I rarely have the smoke during start up if I drive it at least once a week.

By the way, I replaced a few rubber hoses in the car. It may look fine outside, but the corrosion inside is pretty bad. I also replaced most of the radiator hoses too as my mechanic also found some corrosion. You might want to check and see if you need the same thing.

I had the same problem in my 512TR after a cambelt service. It was caused by my shop filling the car with synthetic oil, its better for the engine but smokes a lot more. Ive gone back to Shell Helix oil as recommended in the handbook, no more smoke............

I think I better have it checked out as I am taking the car in for service tomorrow anyway.

Does it smoke when you push the gas pedal,
or let your foot off the gas pedal?

but Shell Helix is a full synthetic is it not? Or is that the Super Helix? I have held a white card and white cloth against this "smoke" on my car and found that most of it is steam/water vapor. I think the lay out of the exhaust causes some condensation to precipitate in the lower pipes which turns to steam after the engine starts.
