Any thoughts on why when you release the brake pedal it is still braking? Where would you start to look? This is a non ABS car. Thanks

    Hi Steve,

Although I don't have any direct experience with this problem with my 512TR, but in general if the pistons are not returning back in the calipers; this can be caused by old rubber hoses that are swelling. After applying the brakes, the hose swells up and will restrict the flow back to the master cyclinder after the brake pedal is released. I guess it could be a problem with the master cylinder or brake booster also.

I'll let you know next time I am in Scottsdale. I would not mind getting together with you and Mark.

Calipers with sticking pistons is probably the most common cause for this. At this age, caliper rebuilding is not out of the question.

As mentioned, hoses swell up and cause issues. :)

Could also be sticking pistons in calipers. Sticking master cylinder. Could be any one of those mate. :)

Best get it looked at asap. Hopefully your friend Mr Morgan can help you out. :)

Do you have this problem if you are pressing and releasing the brake pedal only or are you still pressing the clutch pedal once the car is still braking ?
I had a similar problem on my TR three years ago. Once the brake pedal was pressed together with the clutch it did not release until the clutch pedal was released also.
After changing the master cylinder including the booster the problem was gone.

This is a problem on my friends 512TR that I am trying to help him with. Thanks for the suggestions. I am leaning towards the master. Need to really look at the car first.
