I am in the process of replacing the rear engine release cable on my 512TR. I was pulling the new cable through the firewall area with anticipated success but the duct tape connection between the old and new cable failed. In retrospect, I should have crimped the actual inner wire cables together.

I am now finding it necessary to remove the trim panel in front of the seat belt actuators. I am hoping this will enable me to pass the new cable through the firewall. I
have removed two small screws holding the lower portion to the car. The top portion appears to be anchored to both the trim piece parallel to the rear side window and also to the large door frame trim piece.

Does anyone have experience in removing this trim piece? Also, is there any better way to approach this installation?

    Thanks in advance,

    John

When I had to do this, I left the sheath in place and merely swapped out the inner cable itself. Can you still do this, or did you pull out the sheath as well?
    Best wishes otherwise.:)

I just did this on my car like they said.......I bought a $2.00 piece bicycle cable and threaded it thru.......works perfectly.

    Thanks for the replies.

I need to start riding my bike more often and ask more question here.

    Unfortunately, the sheath pulled through.
So I am going to have to do it the hard way.

Does anyone know how to remove the trim piece in the picture?

I assume it is the same procedure if one wanted to remove the seat belt mechanism behind the trim panel.

It appears that by removing the seat belt actuator I will have access.
