    Does that not reduce power?

Not 100% sure.. I would think not... test pipes would give you better throttle response and will keep engine running cooler.. Not sure if it changes with pipes as a muffler.

Less sound absorbing is MORE NOISE !

    But do we really need that on a 512TR .... :-O) ?

As AMO512TR already knows I've tried a sports exhaust with pipes in place of the muffler on a 512TR. We measured it on a dyno and it gave 15 bhp less than the stock exhaust.

15hp less... wow. I am surprised.. you may want to double check your data and run that test again.. I hear nothing but good feedback by freeing up the cats and running pipes.. no clue when running pipes instead of a muffler.. It actually makes no sense unless ecu's are trying to compensate. Where the tests done right after install.. sometimes the car runs lean after cats are removed. I heard in some cases where mixture needed to be adjusted and some cases where mixtures were fine. I would expect a drop in hp if cats were hollowed out vs. being replaced by test pipes.. but once again no knowledge when pipes replace muffler..

The white car sounded awesome. It had the side slats removed so I am guessing here but there is a strong chance that it had a Koenig exhaust. I have never heard one so not sure but I would not be surprised.

That being said, those asian horns really sounded stupid.

The 512 was dynoed twice on a rolling road to be sure. The tests were done directly after install. The stock cats were kept on.

Do you mean swap the cats for testpipes as well? If you did that, there would be absolutely no back pressure and the car needs some of this at least, otherwise there would definitely be a loss of power.

Maybe one of the techs could chime in on this.. This is getting out of my range of knowledge.. not sure on power loss or loss of back pressure..

You dont lose power due to a lack of backpressure, big misconception. Torque is lost when exhaust velocity is down.
