Just curious to see if anyone else has experienced this problem. After a (very satisfying) run last weekend, I parked the car back in the garage and opened the rear decklid as I normally do, to let the engine cool. Imagine my surprise to spot a substantial pool of Super Unleaded gathering under the rearmost of the fuel injectors on the left-hand side rail (looking from the rear). I don't normally look that closely, but I'm glad I did. Further investigation, with the engine idling (having let everything cool thoroughly first, of course) revealed quite large amounts of fuel spewing out and onto the engine. Having read other threads on F-chat about the propensity of Ferrari powerplants to transition suddenly from internal combustion engines to the external type, I'm profoundly relived that none of the leaking petrol made its way back to the exhaust system, where it would doubtless have contributed to the sort of scenario likely to really spoil my day. Anyone know if this is a regular occurrence on 512s? My suspicion is that a near worthless washer has failed, but will require £££ in labour to replace.
I don't know if this applies to your situation, but the following recall applies to at least 92 and 93 512TRs: 1992 FERRARI 512TR FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINEELIVERY:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS Recall Date: JUL 14, 1994 Summary: THE METAL FUEL SUPPLY LINE BANJO FITTING CAN FRACTURE IF THE NUT ATTACHING THE FUEL LINE TO THE FUEL FILTER IS OVERTORQUED. THIS CAN ALLOW FUEL TO LEAK IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. Consequence: FUEL LEAKS IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT CAN RESULT IN A FIRE WHEN EXPOSED TO A SOURCE OF IGNITION. Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE TWO FUEL SUPPLY LINES WITH MODIFIED FUEL SUPPLY LINES WITH A STRONGER BANJO FITTING THAT IS MORE RESISTANT TO FRACTURE. Potential Units Affected: 408 Notes: FERRARI NORTH AMERICA http://www.automotive.com/1992/49/ferrari/512tr/recalls/3907.html
Hi all. With a strong whiff of fuel i took a look and found a leak. It looks like it’s the fuel rail as fuel is spilling out from underneath it and running along it to the rear of the block. Does anyone have any experience with this please? Should i replace the actual fuel rail or might it be something less expensive? Many thanks Craig.
