    Hey all

well, I finally got my car back from the Major service.... plus test pipes and XOST... car is totally amazing.. but i do notice something strange happening...

under low load.. under 3200rpm... i have like NO power.. and the warning lamp "Slow down cyl 7-12" lights up... or blinks... if i get the revs up over 3200rpm... all is well.

Under 3200rpm.. the engine is blurbing, poping... coughing.. it feels like its being flooded... then as soon as i hit over 3200pm.. its like.. a sudden jolt in power, and you start hitting warp speed....the engine just sings after that...

so basically, i have a situation under 3200rpm...I can't even cruise on the hwy in 5th gear at 70mph.. cause I am under 3000rpm.. and the car is stuttering.... so i have to keep the revs up all the time... i don't think this is normal.. again, only the warning slow down light goes on.. and not the check engine light.

I am going to bring the car back, do you think this might be an electrical gremlin? Before i brought the car for servicing, everything was ok.. of course, now that I have test pipes, i know this might be messing up something, or maybe i have a cylinder not firing properly?

    any input is greatly appreciated
    thanx

Cam timing? ok... good to know..

however, is it "bad" that I drive it in this state... I only drove it yesterday, mostly highway, about 200miles...again, i tried to keep the engine always above 3200rpm...

Ouch. I assume that means the motor is coming out again. I don't think anybody is going to be happy about that.

The shop doesn't test drive after their major work?

Hope the shop can make it right.

well.. they did take it for a road test ... they told me everything was running top shap.

the only thing I might suspect.. is an electrical/water gremilin. They had just washed/detailed the car when I picked it up... and maybe some water that went through the engine cover... messed up something electrical? maybe a plug wire? ... I drove the car yesterday, it was nice and sunny, I would figure any water in the engine/humidity should be gone... but the problem still persists.

Sounds like a pretty basic screw up. Somebody's gonna get yelled at.

been there, done that: Was the cam timing too

aww s***t......the 'certified' ferrari mechanic stopped his 'certification' somewhere in the 1970's...and this was a 90's car......he didn't quite do the 'dialing' correct.....another motor out and done correctly, now a 1 1/2 years later: I'm going to qualified mechanics...that is, with experience too.... hope the best for you.

PS: DIDN'T take it back to the original person...went to a Ferrari certified site...

This sounds like water got in the wrong place. Every time you wash an engine, certain parts need to be removed to air dry. This totaly sounds like a minor problem that will be easy to fix. Keep us informed.

It could be a number of things, maybe cam timing, maybe ignition....the shop must make this situation right. If the cams are off timing, the motor must come back out. I wonder if the "approximate" timing marks/pointers on the rear side of the timing belt covers would show anything (with the motor at top dead center)? Hopefully Rifledriver will correct me if I'm wrong on this, but if the cams are advanced this aids low end torque, if the cams are retarded this improves high end performance. So if the cams are the problem it would seem that they are retarded by a belt tooth or two.

Please let us know what happens....
