    Just before we start work developing cams for our next 575 engined project I thought I should enquire if anyone is aware of any higher performance cams out there?
    I'm awaiting details of what Prodrive used, but it may not be too relevant as their 550 was only quoted at 600bhp whereas we already have this output using a standard 575 engine except with throttle bodies, new ecu and a decent exhaust.
    The stock cam timing is so mild that I believe we should get to 125 bhp per litre (720bhp) and still have a nice tractable engine.

    Simpsons ran a 575 in their race F40 for a while, worth chatting with them I imagine, keep us updated as we are using the same engine in our project as well :)

    Talk to Taz, but 456 cams have a hotter cam it's the Manifolds and throttle bodies that are the restrictors. And there is a difference in firing order on the 456M.

    I've done a bit of research on the cams that are available for these engines, and the early 456 cams are a bit hotter than the 550's and retain the same firing order. They're still a very mild profile, however.

    For a race engine, I'd think you'll want a new set of cams made, or a set of existing ones welded and ground with different profiles. You probably already know Laurie at Webcams, and that's where I'd start. They get around $2K per stick for new ones. Or since you're UK based, probably Piper?

    The Superamerica cams were advanced 7 degrees for a bit more power, but with the same duration.

    Do not fool yourself on the Prodrive 550 engine's output. That 600 hp was through a set of restrictors that cut down on hp considerably. Their cams worked very well.

    There were also 575 GTC cams. I have a 575 GTC WSM, but not much on the engine specs in it and no cam timing info.

    We'll be getting new cams made, they need to be hotter than the 456's.
    I'll post details of what we do and what the results are.

    I know about the restrictors on the prodrive engine but assume that the cams will have been designed with these in mind and probably won't be exactly what we need. When I get the data I'll post it.

    The Prodrive Maranello's looked awsome.....! Saw one of them in the Enzo Ferrari Museum, impressive, also in detail. Despite the fact, that Maranellos havn't been devoloped for the track, they raced successfully against strong competition.....

    They would be "streetable" as in it would be "possible" to drive them on the street, but you'd be fouling plugs left & right, the engine would overheat, and the clutch would wear you out after 10-15 stoplights or inching along in traffic. Too, there's no way they would be street "legal" as they wouldn't have cats or other emissions equipment, and would have aftermarket ECU's, so wouldn't pass an OBD2 scan.
