What about you, are you the typical gentlemen driver or do you go to the track and get the best possible lap times out of your lovely Maranello? What are your experiences while on track? Ever met comparable cars? Personally, I have to admit that I was never on the track (with the Ferrari), even though the Nurburgring is not far away from me. To be honest, I'm scared to damage the car. I won't get into trouble with the insurance. But the Nurburgring is something special, a 22km long and winding track. You need a lot of experience to drive fast there, and I have driven only a handful laps with a BMW, so I have a good excuse
Very interesting question. I have seen very few Maranellos at track events. I have not tracked my 575, but always felt that I wasn't getting anywhere near the full experience at street, even highway speeds. If it's a real car, I'd love to buy a 575 Stradale for track day use. Perhaps, when they retire from competition, the GTCs will fall into the hands of track day folk. Please post a pic of your car at the Ring .... Cheers, Will
Although he's not an FChatter, Dave Wilson of SF Region FCA frequently tracks his 550M. His son was driving a 355 at the same time during the FCA National event at Laguna, and their lap times were roughly equal, with the 550M being just a tad quicker. Gary
Yes -15 days in the last 13 months -Atlantic Motor Sports Park-Le Circuit Mont Tremblant-Sebring-Moroso. Used up one set of Bridgestone S02s and one set of Michelin Sport Cups.,one taillight, one rear bumper., one set Performance Friction brake pads and one set of front rotors. I now have a set Toyo RA1s ready to go . Have enjoyed every minute (except the one when it gently kissed the Armco)More to come when we get back to Florida after doing Targa Newfoundland (as lowly crew!) Peter Mac.
Hell, yes! I have 21,xxx miles on my 2000 Maranello, of which probably 4,000 are track miles. am an instructor for various groups' track events. Rest assured, it is VERY popular, and I always have my right seat filled!
I have never had the desire to place mine on the track. I think it is too heavy of a car myself, having been spoiled by driving purpose built race cars. None the less, I encourge others to take their cars to the track to evaluate the limits of their cars and themselves, especially at the high performance driving classes that are offered periodically through such organizations such as the SCCA. I used to have a Testarossa that I took to the track one year at Laguna Seca. I could sum it up from some one else's quote --- "too fast for the street and too slow for the track".
