I replaced the front windscreen of my 550 98 at the Ferrari service shop. The screen fits well and it has the Ferrari logo, although the manufacturer reads Pilkington instead of the original one Sigla .

The problem is that the screen is not tinted (or not as tinted) as the one before and as the other windows. The difference is obvious to me.

Before I ask or complain to the service shop, does anybody know if this has to be like this for some reason? Or, should it be possible to source a windscreen with the same tinted look?

    Thanks,

    Antonio

When I bought my replacement 550 windscreen I was told that a tint option was not available. Maybe your tinting was done 'after-market'?

Where abouts do you live? Do you mean that your old windscreen was dark, like the rest of the windows? In Australia its illegal to have any form of tint on the front windscreen. Im not sure its the same law where you live or around the world. But windscreens for around the last 50yrs,are laminated from the factory that makes them,so incase of an accident, you dont get covered in glass. The laminate looks like a slight tint on the glass. The windscreen just cracks, doesnt shatter and cover you in glass. If your old 550 windscreen was dark, and the new one is not, then obviously it was tinted later, aftermarket as rmfurzeland mentioned? :)

I live in the UK. The tint came from the factory. I own the car from new. It is not a strong tint, just a green look.

A very light tint looks great and wont stand out much with the law. Ive noticed customers with them tinted prevented sun damage to the dash.

Ok,i understand now. Yeah, the light green tint is more than likely the laminate that i said before. It also helps reduce glare through the windscreen coming that comes off other cars ect.... As why its not as dark as your old one? I dunno sorry. My friend here owns a car window tinting shop, and he told me that tint can get darker after a few years before it "settles" at that one shade? I dunno?? Maybe thats what yours was like, thats why you can tell the difference with the new one?? Other than that,im not sure! Cheers anyways :)
