Finally strong prices for the 550 Barchetta - it seems like it is now taking the lead on the 550/575 prices (including the SA). The 90-mile car on Gooding & Co sold for $ 726.000!! (2001 Ferrari 550 Barchetta | Gooding & Company) - and that is even without the optional Fiorano handling Package! Fully understandable IMO.
Must say this selling price did take me be surprise somewhat, it seems the market is finally recognizing the 550B for what it is: the last front engine V12 full convertible available exclusively with stick shift.
But let's also focus here....this car has possibly the lowest miles of any 550 Barchetta on the planet. It's not going to be driven. It will be a part of some exclusive collection. I was at RM's auction this weekend when a pristine example with very low miles, red/ tan sold at RM for just over $400k and fact is you get more $$$ at RM / Gooding in Monterey than most any other sale.
I agree, the is the new top level, but any way you will not find any Barchetta here in Europe for much less than 400.000 Euro and more likely you have to pay 450.000 Euro currently for a really good one. I think that the sales price of the Gooding car also will give the 550 Barchetta's a further notch up in the near future... but lets see...
The current Barchetta sale prices are just getting back to the levels of the original sale prices when the cars hit the open market with the typical premiums associated with a new limited production model. I remember being offered $550,000 for mine. I did not sell then and have no plans of selling her now.
That car had 3,000+ miles and actually sold for $462K. With buyer's premium (assuming 10%) it would be $508,000. A lot, but pretty much in line with the few others I've seen advertised the last few months.
As a way of depressing myself, I took the recent auction price of the Barchetta with only 150 miles and what I'd guess mine, with over 9,000 miles, is worth and estimated the depreciation based on mileage costs me about $40/mile. So my work commute costs me $1,600. Of course, in truth it's probably not that bad, as the mileage probably depreciates the value on more of a logarithmic scale. Still... I guess it's great to have the value go up, but I was happier driving it when it was worth much less. Now, besides being conscious of racking up the miles, I'm more paranoid about those texting soccer moms in minivans. I console myself by thinking that if I keep it 40 more years or so, mileage won't matter.
The car has 90 miles on it. It has never been driven and will never be driven. What difference does the FHP make? It was not a visual pack.
I had an independent dealercontact me saying they are going to raise the price of their two euro model cars to match the auction price of 726 of course their cars have miles on them and have been very well advertised for anywhere from 460 to 499 for the last 6 months with no luck?. These dealers see an auction where a perfect car with ideal color and no miles sell for an out of market price and they feel all are worth that .... Of course I bet if I was selling one to the same dealer he would tell me they are only worth far less.....
Larryh, yes same in Italy .... "Of course I bet if I was selling one to the same dealer he would tell me they are only worth far less..... "
That is the strangest argument I so far have seen.... In the collector world anything that makes a car more special/unique than the rest (including special factory options) is something that makes it more collectible...
I was offered their red one for $400K before Monterey. I declined. I am sure they would still let it go for the same number.
Two weeks ago this car hit FoSA's website for $499,900. I guess they saw the auction results and figured why not? Couldn't get the link to post, but their asking price is now $649,900! Rosso Corsa over Beige with 7300 miles.
IMO, everyone needs to keep one eye on the stock market as well. A few more days of 300+ point losses will result in a change of dynamics in the collectible car market.
Absolutely there is no doubt that the barchetta is adisirable car but cars don't really double in value just cause one car sold for big money . one year ago , actually less I was offered a euro car for just under 300 should bought it but I only want a U.S. Car.. Very interesting market The stock market may create some decent deals
Maybe...it could go either way IMHO. People with the money may decide it is better to "park" their money in investment quality vehicles rather than the market. The flip side is they choose not to invest in anything. Unless someone over extended themselves to obtain one of these cars they will just keep them and the supply will dry up. I still think people with the financial capability will continue to purchase these types of cars, but that group might become smaller if the market continues to slide. Just my $.02 worth.
Now my perfect 550 Barchetta is up for sale in Denmark: Ferrari 550 Barchetta Pininfarina It is hard to let it go....... I hope it will find a good new owner! Cheers ABO
$835K asking... Giallo/Nero 672 miles Ferrari 550 Barchetta | eBay As an original (and still) BPF owner, I question the seats in this car. Ours are totally different. CW
Somebody ordered her that did not like the standard racing seats, apparently. There were all kinds of things you could do with leather and seats if you knew what to ask. Yellow was not one of the standard Daytona stripe colors, either, or even a standard leather color at that time.
why are the Barchetta going for 2x the SuperAmericas? I remember when they were all new and the SuperAmericas were considered much more desirable, mainly for the ugly roof (cover) jobs. don't get me wrong, they are special car and should be highly valued, but 2-3x a SuperAmerica?
I love it- striking on this car! Somewhat off topic (and at this point moot as well) but just curious- what was the low point of asking prices on these cars- I seem to recall in the mid-$100s in the dark days of '09 or thereabouts? Or is my memory bad on this...
Rob- 550s are all three pedals. The three pedal SAs go for similar prices and there were only 39 of those.
Just casually started to look for a Barchetta. Anyone have an idea where the market is TODAY on these? I watched a silver car in Monterey barely break $400. (IIRC) Looking for Red? Yellow? Something with lower miles. Is it possible to get a car in the $400 range? Personally I think it may be one of the most stunning modern Ferrari's ever made!
I bought a barchetta about one year ago and I decided my budget was 400K so I looked and made offers on every car i liked (options, history color , miles) some of the cars had asking prices near 700 k and surprising i found several opportunities at prices near my target dispute asking prices and then more offers came to me after i made my deal .. SO yes you can get one for that budget .. GOod luck you will like it.. THis is an excellent time to buy....(getting cold).....
