What does everyone think about Porter field brake pads for the 550?? Here is the quote from their web-site http://www.porterfield-brakes.com/pads.html R4-S High Performance Street and Autocross For high performance and heavy-duty street conditions. Perfect for prolonged everyday street use while also being capable of tolerating the most severe street use without any fade. Rotor friendly of course. The R4-S friction level will give you an impressive increase in stopping ability with very minimum pedal effort. R4-S compound has the absolute lowest noise and dust levels, far below OEM equipment or any other high performance brake material. Good for autocrossing, some drivers schools, solo events, and rallys. The R4-S compound is available for virtually any vehicle sold in the US. We also offer the R4-S in pad sizes for competition type calipers that are used under street driven conditions. I heard the Ferodo brake pads are the same as the OEM's Brembo rotor, brake pads and brake caliper the 550 has. So I think they are pointless to put the same one as replacement. First they are expensive (a set of 4 almost $900 vs Porterfield $300) and secondly they will squeak again at 8000-9000 miles like OEM brake pads. Any thoughts?? Thanks - Shelbee
I have had good luck with the Porterfield R4s compound for street use. Better braking performance, less squeal than stock and much cheaper price. Brian Brown Patrick Ottis Co. Berkeley, CA
Please do a search o this topic. It has been heavily discussed here recently. Those pads are OK for street-only driving. Please do NOT use them on the track. Ferodo pads vary. Some are OEM pads; some, such as the DS2500 pads I run, are a great hybrid street/track pad. However, the prices you quote suggest you are getting hosed. Try other sources, such as Cobalt Friction and others. The prices are MUCH lower than that.
Just had them (Porterfield R4s) on this morning. Very nice, better grip, no squeal. Hope they will last
