    Hi.
I have searched but none the wiser..
My 550 has been fitted with remote controlled capristo valved rear silencers and for now the rest is standard.. It sounds good however very low sound and has not got the exact Ferrari sound I wish for...I would love for a more crisp higher pitched sound with a little more volume but without not suiting the car and being overly loud.. I also have a 355 that sounds amazing with cat bypass and x-ost rear silencer and this is more the sound I would like to achieve with the 550, I know it is not a screaming v8 but there is plenty other v12 Ferrari that can sound similar..
I would like to know whether the straight centre pipes would be best for sound to go with my capristo or the merged X centred pipe would give me better higher pitched sound. Obviously both will give hp gains with from what I have read the straight pipes best for hp..However sound is probably my no.1 goal here.

My mechanic said to take out the center pipes and replace with X pipes. just one opinion.

Stuart- Straight center pipes or an X-Pipe in the center. Former gives more hp and torque and is what Ferrari did on the 575M in 2003. Latter is preferred for sound by some drivers and will be quieter than the straight pipes.

Bradan makes straight pipes and there are several sources for the X-Pipes.

    Great guys thanks.
Does the X pipe give a higher pitched sound than the straights as just now the noise is very low and who is best for the X pipe. The straight pipes could be manufactured by anyone I would reckon but less so with the X pipe

    Yeah that sounds superb.
Not sure if too much noise for.what I am looking for. What is it light just cruising etc? What does that system consist of and would X pipe and cspristo be slightly less loud?

Just so you know, the 599 and 599 GTO have straight pipes and they sound pretty good, especially the latter. OEM on late Maranellos was straight pipes.

You should not use an X-pipe on flat crankcase V8s like Ferraris. They work on 90 degree crank V8s like those in German and American cars plus most Maseratis. On flat crank V8s they just foul up the flow. Same on V12s, except the improvement over the OEM center muffler/resonator/cork is so great you can put up with it.

    Thanks for the info guys😉
Straight pipes would be easier and could easily be made or purchased however my only worry would be that it would just be an amplified version of the deep sound I have just now and not more of higher pitched "whale" I would prefer?
Has anyone got.or heard like what I have or had something similar I. E deep sound with only rear silencers then put on straight pipes afterwards then it has raised the noise level slightly and also raised the pitch.

    Stuart,
on my 575 there is the my exhaust system, both design and manufacture, headers 6-1 plus 200 cps cats.
The noise is quite at slow gas and with bypass close, inside a care the confort is more the the original exhaust.
when the bypass is open and go down gas is another thing .. like the video .
Yes straight pipes would be just be an amplified version of the original deep sound, the only way to do more of higher pitched sound is change kind of headers .... because is in this part where cylinders frequency add up to each other and born the sound .....

Fabio, what are you using for the rear cans? Are you still using stock diameters for the exhaust pipes? I am interested because I need to find a way to quiet it. I have not found any muffler of any brand that fits into the space available and which also caters to my 3inch exhaust. I am thinking of just cutting open and re-designing the insides of the stock cans. I am sure there is a lot of unused steel inside them when the valve is open.

Willy- He has a stock HGTC exhaust with an X-pipe in the center.

Thanks Taz, if he thinks his car is fast now, just wait until he enlarges the post cats exhaust. That explains a lot to me as to why his ECUs aren't that fussed. Sounds to me however that for him (and you?) the whole expensive exercise was for the sound only. One can buy electronics to pump whatever sound you want through your speakers and which rev matches exactly to the actual engine. BMW do it now.

Fabio, why don't you get a time for 100-160kph in 3rd gear with your car with only a header and cat change to compare with mine with just a post pre-cat change to 3inch? Such data would certainly help sales I would think.

I think I may go with straight pipes firstly and hopefully it will sound higher pitched and too my taste, if it does not I mat be able to modify and add in a X pipe section like picture below at a later stage. Is most straight pipes available from companies 3 inch diameter or less?

Here is X pipe could add in to straight pipes if need be if not happy with sound.

    Willy,

    Terry explained well ...

Personally I not want to enlage my exhaust pipes, i think 60.3 mm x1.5 they are good for my use and for engine run....

Yes, I think that my car is fast now, sure not fast like your .... but she have an excitant sound that i love ....

This is another thing that i not want to do .... "One can buy electronics to pump whatever sound you want through your speakers and which rev matches exactly to the actual engine."

As soon as possible i try to get the time for 100-160 kph in 3rd gear and I will post the time.

For the back exhaust i think you need to make by your self the dedicated mufflers with 3" inlet pipe.

In pursuit of a distinctive Ferrari exhaust sound that suits the modern-classic GT look of the 575, I decided to try my final exhaust system configuration:

I have installed exact these Fuchs Export mufflers with Fuchs straight pipes at my 550.
For me, the sound is gorgeous !
Silent is different ! You will hear the car at full throttle or when you provoke it.
But you also can drive the car "police friendly".
    ;)

    What's your price, thrasher ?
