I posted in the wrong section like a doofus...

At 48K.. I figure that a 550 Maranello that's fanatically serviced and used for mainly highway use (15-17K miles per year) should easily run well past 100K miles, right?

In light of that I want to check the car's compression... What are the specs I'm looking for on a healthy engine?

    Thanks in advance!

From Tony Palladino's August 1998 FORZA Shoptalk (average dry compression test results on a healthy cylinder without a lot of valve overlap):

If the compression ratio is 8.0:1 to 8.5:1 expect about 145 psi.

If the compression ratio is 8.5:1 to 9.5:1 expect about 165 psi.

If the compression ratio is 9.5:1 to 10.5:1 expect about 175 psi.

I know people will say that they drove their 308QV to the moon and back and it's still "tight" ;), but I use 90K top end and 150K bottom end lives when deducting for mechanical wear -- JMO.

The last compression check I did on a 550 (99 model) it was 180psi across the board. That was with a warm engine. As far as life expectancy of the engine? though call.. I personaly have not heard of and engine coming apart on either the 456 or the 550.

    Thanks guys.

I'll try and test it this week and let ya know what I find. Cant be any tougher than any other car, right?

I just did another 430 miles in it this weekend blasting to and from Boca.. car ran great, still not using oil, still fast as ever.

I'm gonna see how many miles I cna get out of it :) :)
