Note to myself: Do not migrate to Australia ;o)

I do not trust ebay prices. I have personal knowledge of a group of dealers moving stock between them and bidding on each others cars. If they fail and get stuck with the car they hide it for 6-9 months and then it pops up again at a befriended dealer.

I doubt such games are limited to eBay......however many other forces are at play driving prices for collector cars. Currency arbritage, safehaven investment, new money from emerging economies like China and India, and of course the booming car event business. Its a perfect storm. When and if it all goes pearshaped make sure you love the car your with

Wise advise. I always say you can not take shares out for a drive. Not if they are high, not if they are low.

But shares cannot break down and leave you and your increasingly embarassed spouse in the deep cold night in remote areas and surrounded by wild hungry animals.

Seriously, I also like thinking that it is not only a good investment, but a really enjoyable one as well :D.

A Hyundai can do that as well and then you have to look at something ugly.

I think I understand your point, but by your own words you said "If it's a deal the price would have been posted"......so I ask you again, if a 550 is now advertised at $200K+, by your own definition, is it a deal now?
I want your honest opinion; if you would buy a 550 in todays market, by paying $200K+ of your own cash to own a 550 today?
    It's a very simple question. :)

The CNC 550 sold for over $200k last week or thereabouts so this is not out of nowhere. I do think that if you have a well optioned 2001 or so (probably any year, really, but seems like the 2001s get the big money), this is more or less the market.

Full disclosure: I have a well optioned 2001 550 Maranello in pristine condition. There is no way that I'm selling at these prices. It is the only front engine V12 Ferrari that truly speaks to me - and I owned a Daytona for several years. There's no other car like it.

That's typical. I bought a car and it was still on their site for a month after it was sitting in my garage.

Domenic-You are trying to compare a year ago prices with todays prices. A year ago it is NOT a deal. Today it is. If the going price today is 200K, then yes I would buy. Problem is I don't have 200K :)

What a battle to the end with the 550 in ebay. The bidders went back and forth and the winner bid up 100 bucks in the last few hours and won it.

Won't that be interesting if it reappears with a story about a deadbeat
bidder, hence the re listing. Truly hope that's not the case and that it was
    a real fair auction

Another one just got listed on eBay for $189,000. It has 17,000 miles on it. Looks like a nice car.
