550 door "lock" transfers

    In my eagerness to "desticky" the plastic in my 550 I have managed to destroy the transfer that says lock on the door handle. Anyone know if/where I would be able to source a new pair please?

    I would send them to StickyNoMore -- in the US. Don't know of any other option. And surely a less expensive route than if you're luck enough to find new ones. And used ones are likely to be sticky too.

    sorry perhaps I wasn't clear enough - I have done a wonderful job destickying them myself. sadly in my overzealous destickying - I rubbed the "lock " transfer off the handle. I am just looking to replace the transfer that says "lock" not the handle itself.

    Sticky-No-More can do that for you. In case we were not clear, there is no factory source for those transfers. I am sure one of the brake decal (transfers in the UK) makers can provide a pair for you, but you have to find one who will do it.

    This would be my recommendation, graphics are laser marked instead of vinyl transfers.

    I too echo the others comments. I just got my parts back from StickyRX and the parts were outstanding. I love how the parts are laser etched as opposed to decals.

    Although the answer below will work quite well I happen to agree with others here that sticky no more does great work and may be the way to go. But to answer your question, when we make pre-production prototype models and show cars for auto shows we use custom dry transfers for all interior lettering. The pros are that the look is near perfect to production processes and fast to apply the cons are that the lettering can be fragile and take a little practice to apply. Unlike a vinyl decal these type of graphics mimic OEM screen printing perfectly. Screen printing is what is traditionally used for non-illuminated lettering, laser etching is used for illuminated graphics that are back lit. There is a company named Color Graphics Studios out of Detroit that does good work, they do a lot of industry jobs as well as support restoration projects. Ask for Matt he is the owner and should be able to assist you. tel:313-875-9622

    For those interested, we don't use decals but we offer refinishing with laser marking. Here are some 550 door handles :)

    Your results look great and laser marking sounds like a very high-tech solution but I'm genuinely curious about how this technique is applied in this application...

    Are the parts coated in white all over before the final black layer(s) are applied upon which the laser removes black to leave the desired motif in white?

    Yep, you have it figured out. Thank you for the complement - we appreciate it :) For these door handles which are used across many models (360, 430, 456, 550, 575 - maybe I'm forgetting some), we fully disassemble them - stripe down to bare metal, apply 2 types of primers (sand in between), apply white and then black and then laser etch. Then reassemble. If we are lucky, we don't damage the coating on reassembly as these can be a PITA to put together. Any issues and then we must re-work :)

    It's a very time consuming process but we feel it's what these cars deserve :)
