I'm driving a 1997 550 that exhibits occasional "stalling" during acceleration/ cornering-- whether the ASR is engaged or not. It's been suggested that the problem could be:
    1. Fuel starvation (as I'm cornering or accelerating! I usually run the tank at 1/2 to 1/4 full for weight)
    2. Magnetic wheel sensors are dirty. And during cornering, their data is triggering the ECU somehow.
    3. Fuse box is vibrating as body/frame flexes and the electricals are cutting out.
    4. ASR timing is deficient (but again, the problem occurs even when the ASR is disengaged)
    5. Yaw sensor?
It's really disconcerting to be driving a six-figure 550 that stalls like a 1960 Fairlane, when coming down an interstate onramp and some fool's on your tail! I'm afraid I'm going to end up with a fool in my trunk one of these days!
Thanks for your ideas/ experiences. John

Does the ASR warning show up on the central indicator when the car exhibits such behaviour ?
Would be hard to believe that the problem affects all ASR functions (rear brakes and ECU), but does not trigger the dash warning.

The fact that the problem occurs as well when the ASR is switched off is an indication that the root cause may be somewhere else.
    SD2 error codes ?

There is a roll-over fuel shut-off valve which, if it is not mounted properly, could cause the problems you have been experiencing. There is a warning about ensuring it is mounted vertically in the manual.

Have you had any aftermarket stereo work done? If so, go up one post to Stephens post....seen it happen before.

I would suggest trying it for a while with a full tank of gas. If it is ok, you know what the problem is. If not, then I might consider running diagnostics to confirm that the asr is in fact off when the problem ocurs.
I exsperinece a similar problem with my asr most of the time when I am wailing in my 550. Hence, I always drive it with the asr disabled.

Is it any different when Sports mode is selected?

Is your fuel quality assured of good octane and no water/contaminants?

Check the fuel filters. Have run into (4) 550's now where they were plugged with debris from the rubber parts of the fuel pump melting. Same symtoms.
