I have noticed that the side mirrors fold back. Does anyone use this feature on a regular basis. That is, we have a two car garage and the family goes in between the cars all the time. Feels safer to fold the mirrors in. I have also noticed that these wonderful Italian Cars dont do well with the constant use of items. I.E. the sun visor problem. Anybody using these on a regular folding basis ?
I fold mine in for a different reason: birds guarding their territories land on the window frame, see their reflection and, thinking it's another bird, get angry and crap on the door. The only thing to watch for is to be sure that the edge of the mirror frame doesn't bump up against the body. Over time, the paint on the mirror frame edge will wear away.
I do not believe that the mirrors are designed to be folded away on a regular basis. Doing this might loosen at least one of rather feeble internal screws, which must then be tightened by disassembly of the mirror. That can be done as a diy job, but is nothing you really want to do.
My experience folding the mirrors has been good. My 550 has spent most of the last 5 years or so covered up and I usually fold away the mirrors after using the car every two weeks or so. There is a screw on the underside of the mirror housing; on occasion I have gently tightened the screw to adjust the 'slack'. Like everything else, move the mirrors with care.
Unless there is a button inside to fold them I would not do it too much. I guess the folding is there to avoid injuring pedestrians that are foolish to run too fast and hit the car?
