Can the black rubber gasket around the edge of the front headlights be replaced without replacing the entire headlamp assembly? Mind is starting to deteriorate and come apart, especially where it meets the hood (bonnet they call it here in Hong Kong).

    Thanks!

I just glue the separated segments down every so often. One day I'll have to replace them I guess.

Barry- The originals were attached with thin, two sided tape on the 575M. Never did find any narrow enough to use, though.

I just use 3M adhesive, Terry. The tube, not the spray. It does the job.

Taz, if you are interested I purchased the thin double adhesive tape from McMaster-Carr (McMaster.com). I ordered 1/4" (@ $12.07 roll) and 1/2" ($18.12 roll) as was not sure which it was. Details bellow. It looks right and I have more than I'll ever use. Be glad to send some over if I can figure how to roll it up in useable fashion.

Bill- Thanks. We have been looking for that. Onto the hard drive it goes. I will let my techs know for my next service, probably when the rear Mov'It ceramics are fitted.

Thanks for the offer. It is probably more of a pain to try and send part of it than to just buy a roll. Which one worked? 1/2" sounds way too wide.

Taz, my headlight saga continues. Once I reinstall the headlights will let the forum know about which tape and also how to restore headlights that may need more than a polishing.
Upon removal of the seal it seemed to me that there were the two sizes, 1/4" for sure. The new replacement tape looks good (oem).
The short to the headlight story for now is, there is a two part paint (clear urethane) sold as a kit for headlights that will bring the covers back nicely. The current problem for me is getting it applied properly. Will post the end of this story on the headlight thread I started a few weeks ago.
A last note for now, the headlights are incredibly easy to remove to replace a seal or whatever.

They are a bit cheaper over here, last year they cost me $130 each with discount, still a crazy price for a piece of rubber.

Don't forget there is a left and right hand

How easy is this to do? Any tips or how-to videos?

It is actually easy but somewhat frustrating. As is often the case , you have to remove/move things to get at the fasteners. I think I had to cut a wrench in half to access one of the retaining nuts in a tight spot. You don't need the manual , it's all obvious. It definitely is doable by a DIY'er.

Pic a day when you have lots of patience. It’s not a difficult job. Take lots of pictures of how your headlights fit and how they are bolted in. Leave one headlight in while you work on the other so you can go back and forth for reference. If you are not real familiar with this type of work consider putting quality masking tape around the perimeter painted areas to offer some paint protection. Don’t leave the tape on the car in the sun or for any length of time.
Once the headlight is out mounting the gasket is pretty easy. Even on new gaskets the stickiness of the new tape is marginal at best.
Make sure the mounting surface is clean and if you are reusing an old gasket make sure the old adhesive is removed before applying new adhesive.
