550 HVAV Face Plate

The face plate on my 98 550 air conditioning/heater controls id delaminating. My Ferrari dealer tells me I have to replace the entire unit, switches and all to correct the cosmetic problem to the tune of about $1,500. I know someone has made just a replacement plate for (I think it was) the 360 as they experienced the same prblem. Does anyone know of a practical solution? I do know I can buy a cardon fiber plate but it wouldn't match the balance of the interior. Thanks for any advice
