My car is having its cambelt service this winter so I decided to have them remove the injectors so I could get them analysed and cleaned. On another car of a similar age this made a world of difference as they were inconsistent, and even the best were only delivering about 70% of the required fuel.

I got them back today - and on the 550 its a different story. The shop said they were all completely fine, clean and consistent. So in one sense I wasted my money - but it's good to know for sure. So if your 550 isnt misfiring, my advice is to leave the injectors alone !

My 550 was running fine when I bought it but I still had the injectors cleaned and the guy said they were the dirtiest he had ever seen. I regularly check spark plugs and they look far better now than they did after purchasing the car. This is IMO always money well spent.

I had mine cleaned and tested by RC Fuel Injection a couple years ago and they tested good. It is good to verify, especially if the car has been sitting...they get sticky. Most everyone puts on new Vinton seals when they test fuel injectors, so there is value even if they test fine.

The injectors are no different than any other car. A 550 has no magical special never needs cleaning injector.

I used to have a worn out core 360 engine with 125,000 miles. It was daily driven. When we had a 360 with suspected injector issues we swapped them. The high mileage daily driven injectors were nearly always better the the low mileage suspect injectors. If your car is or was infrequently driven, get them serviced.
Injector service is like alignment. Some of the people doing it actually know how. Pretty graphs and charts are not a good indicator.

I always wondered if putting a good cleaner in tank e.g BG44 and then going for a Italian time up would give you some of the cleaning that removing and sending them out

I am sure sending them out would be better but what margin

Never seen bad injectors fixed by driving. Cleaning process in no way like driving. Cleaned in hot detergent ultrasonic cleaning bath while run at high cyclic rate. And debris screens replaced.
