This auction site really pushes sellers to lower their reserves on cars (so they can earn their commission if a car sells, they get nothing if it doesn't meet reserve). This was very true on this auction that ended today. Buyer won for sure.

Ttforcefed - I still don't understand how 550/575 European cars like this stack up against USA Ferraris of the same model.

in the USA the EU cars trade at a discount for sure - my question remains - how did someone bring in a 2000 MY car in 2000. Doest make sense.

Back in the day, a euro car traded for $10k to $20k less. Today, if the car has been federalized, who cares?

I owned one that was also argento. They get federalized by one of the few shops that do it. That's all. They sell at a discount because of the 1980's gray market stigma that just won't die. IMO the non-usa cars are better! I owned 2 gray Ferraris and they are bettr than the 4 other USA Ferraris I have owned. I owned a gray and USA 550 at the same time and still own the USA 550. The graymarket one was better.

They were fedarealized. There was even a big lawsuit brought by Ferrari against one of the companies doing the conversion (Amerispec(?)). Amerispec won. It had a huge impact on all imports.

Basically, in 2000, not only was a 550 cheaper in Europe, they were available. You could buy a new 550,import, and federalize it, for less than a market value 550.
