I’m trying to learn more about the 550 Maranello and I’m unclear about wheels. Were the Barchetta wheels a factory upgrade option on the Maranello or are Maranellos with Barchetta wheels merely sporting an aftermarket accessory choice? Thank you.

Those are modular wheels and they were an option of 550's much like fender shields and quilted rear shelf / headliner.

Affirmative, a factory option that was one of the Scaglietti Options introduced in the 97/98 timeframe. Not too many originally fitted to early 550s, since it was apparently not well marketed.

Tim- The 512 TR modulars are 1/2" narrower front and rear, 15x8 front and 15x10 rear. The 512M TR wheels were 10.5" rear, but still only 8" wide in the front.

That’s what I call a good business man! I got a set of the Barchetta wheels myself and put them on, but the car looks much older with these rims on. I sold them for 10.000 USD and put the original wheels back on and it looks better in my opinion. I also sold the complete luggage set and got a 2002 BMW M3 cabrio for the money of those two uneccesary 550 options. Much better value in my opinion.

How is the 355 going with that engine? Which transmission is in it?

the original rims I need for semi slicks for both cars. Sometimes I get cheap pieces, sometimes not. The used Grand Turismo Brakes for 1150€, the 2 leather bags for 2500€, the two big bags for 500€ without 550 Logo. New F355 bags 3 pieces from Ferrari for 1000€, 512tr bag for 250€, big 512tr bag for 450€. When you have time here in Europe you get somtimes with luck good pieces.......I buy and never sell! Here in Germany we have a special Ebay, without paying extra for selling. Here sell the German scotish People!!!!! https://www.ebay-kleinanzeigen.de/
A 512tr engine has allways a 512tr transmission. It is faster as a 512tr. Ferrari say OK for the rebuilding with 512tr engine.

Ferrari learned from the 550 modulars. No seals on the 575M modulars between the rim and hub sections.

simply with body glue inside over the rubber pull a sealing seam and they are always tight. Even Ferrari does that,
