Just sold my Testarossa, and I am finding replacing it more difficult than first envisaged. To begin with I thought that the 550 would be a perfect replacement due to its modern design, "practicality", but I am begining to miss the TRs visual statement and sense of occassion. I was wondering if some of you had any experience with either in order to shed some light. My budget is around £60K and the car will be a weekend one. Pros and cons for each please.

if you want the attention of the testarossa then buy the diablo but they are not as reliable as a ferrari and cost a fortune to maintain the 550 is a great car but dont have as much wow factor as people who dont know about ferrari's dont know what it is
If you really liked the testarossa then buy a 512tr or a F512m you can buy mine for 55k if you want one as i am getting a ferrari ???????

I can understand your feelings, there';s no doubt that the 550 is a great car but it certainly doesn't get the looks like my 355 used to, probably not helped by not being Red!

The 550 is a Gent;emans carraige by comparison, I'm certain the Diablo is not! however if it's attention you want then go for the Diablo or as SteveF suggests a later variant of your TR

Charlie (chaa) had a Diablo- he would fill you in as to the pros and cons of ownership. FWIW, I'd say a Diablo will have more of a sense of occasion than the 550, but is dynamically no where near the ability or quality. To get a comparable 'Audified' Diablo, you'd need to get a later one which will cost more than £60k.

The 512m is worthy of very serious consideration I'd say.

Thanks for the feedback Mark. There were times in the TR when I felt "a bit of a poser", but to actually spend £60K on a high maintenance car AND go un-noticed seems a little harsh! Why not buy a SL500 or 645? Maybe the Diablo is the other extreme, but I wish Ferrari had built something in-between.

Diablo all the way, should be able to get a private sale 95/96 VT for roughly that price, maybe a bit more....., maybe a bit less.

Thing is if you are that interested in considering the Lambo, do you not think that if you got a ferrari now, you'd get the lambo after cos it is the next extreme. I'd rather own the less reliable etc first, learn my lesson but enjoy and move on to something better suited for more mileage/driving.

I'm just biding my time for the VT, i keep having to delay and delay but i know it'll be worth it...

Hope you make the right choice.

Bought mine last year for £47,000ish, it was high mileage at around 70,000. The time i had it i only had it serviced and did not cost me anymore. The car was great to look at and sounded great and pulled like a train, but the problem was the interea, it was bloody tight for me to sit in.At the time of buying i was caught up in the moment of buying my first Lambo and thought i would get used to the small space i had to sit in. the car went a few months ago back to the guy who sold it to me,i made a grand on it anyways. Funny thing is that a mate of mine has a Diablo and my boss has a late Vt in one of his gararges so i should have known better as far as the seats were concerned. I also had my 355 up for sale as well but becourse i could not find a F1 Barchetta spider i took it back of the market. If i knew then what i knew now i would have kept it as another toy.
