    Hi,

as you know, i drive a 550, on highways fairly quick (once the engine is warm). Since a few time, i have the feeling the car doesn't gain speed so quickly.
Im wondering if it could be a power loss (for what reason ?), or a tired clutch, or if i simply get used too much used to it...
Any ideas/simple tests/similar experiences would be welcome.

    Thanks.

    several options:

    get the car dynoed
drive another 550 of similiar years, miles
have the dealer check the computer for any faults

Check fuel filters for contamination. Look at earlier posts about dissolving gas tank rubber parts clogging the filters and power loss.

we trid it out with the dealer, and again,

in first four gears, it goes quite well, afterwards, it becomes more slow gaining speed.

The dealer suggests maybe the gas is of bad quality, or the "debit-metre" (measures the air quantity the engine gets) is ****ed up...

So first step will be changing the gas, and if the problem persists, they will start looking seriously at the thing.

Do you mean that your car has gotten slower ?
A worn clutch would be audible (slipping) and would not affect engine output, so there's got to be something else. If you do a lot of highway driving, don't be fooled, a 100-160km/h in sixth can feel sluggish, especially when you have an E320CDI or one of these super diesels barges tailgating you on an italian highway. 160-260 is another story ...

I would not buy the bad gas story, sounds like dealer BS.
Would not pay your dealer a cent until you have a diagnosis. Dyno the car is not a bad idea. A side-by-side test an alternative if you can find adequate/safe conditions. Timing the car accelerating from 100km/h in 6th in repeatable conditions can be a good test too.
You can also call Nyon and ask for the chief technician, he can have good inputs. Call other dealers too (Sion for instance), several opinions are better than one (who happens to be the embarassed dealer who sold you the freakin' car).

Hi ze shark, i guess you're right, maybe i should give a look to other dealers.
Anyway, in the meantime, there is no real rush, as the car under warranty.
I met the guy from Sion at the car show, nice people.
