a friend of mine wanted me to ask if you guys would have an idea as to what the problem is. 2000 550 maranello the engine check light is on and won't turn off. the OBDII reads no trouble codes. only mods he has done to it are K&N air filter, spark plugs, tubi, 10w30 oil. any ideas guys? and if anyone knows... what major components are due for a major overhaul if there is any? and whats included in the major service at the dealer?
You may want to remove the K&N filter and try to clean or replace your MAFS. There have been many instances where K&Ns (even new) leave oil depositis ont he MAFS wire and cause improper readings resulting in the CEL and lose of power. Usually, that would pull right up on the OBDII bulletin though. Give that a shot as it is easy and will cost a mimimum amoint of money. Hope this helps.
I am having the same problem right now. Two weeks ago the light ws due to not zeroing out the computer error codes after a major service. Now we are going to check for any faulty oxygen sensors which many times is the problem. I have also heard that these cars frequently have malfunctions with the error code lights and that nothing is really wrong with the car other than the computer malfunctioning frequently. I will let you know after mi car goes in this Friday. My car is a 2000 woth 9000 miles on it. gary
fwiw, i have never had odd lights flash on my 550. the only thing i get now and then is the suspension warning light - but that gets triggered by my one actuator that spins. i unspin it and the light goes out. otherwise, no such oddities. fwiw. doody.
mine also was a bad 02 Sensor. Quickly diagnosed and reset by hooking it up to the computer. After it happened 3 times (a few weeks between each reset) I had them replaced.
What and where is the actuator and how do you unspin it ? I think the light got triggered in the sport mode after some wheel spin.
FWIW,I habe never experience the "spinning actuator" problem, but have had a faulty connectionon the plugthat was fixed by soldering. The Check Engine light has come on,on my car for a variety of reasons in the past, bad fuel, exhaust leak, worn sensor, cats removed.
Maranellos don't like Chevron, it eats O2 sensors. Shell is OK, Union 76 too IIRC. Could be the problem?
Interesting observation, but I haven't had the problem in over 30k of miles b/w two cars using predominantly chevron but generally not caring which gas so long as the grade meets (we in CA are stuck with 91). --Dan
