That’s interesting. I guess, for some reason, I just assumed it would hurt the future value if it wasn’t all original paint. What about the hood, is that normal as well? Who do you usually have do the paint work on yours? Ferrari dealer, body shop? How often are bumpers repainted?
The bonnet/hood is notoriously susceptible to chips because it's low and long and angled. I had my last chip filled in and then got a protective film applied, there are a lot of threads on that subject. If you drive these cars, they'll either have chips, or be repainted, or have a protective film. Ferrari dealers usually don't have their own body shops (though mine does) and there are numerous debates on Fchat about whether it's best to go direct to a good body shop (cutting out the middleman) or go via a dealer you have a good relationship with (in case something goes wrong you have more leverage).
Perfectly normal if the car is driven. Unavoidable and no big deal. The cars are very low slung and its bound to happen. If the car is solid with no accident history and just a repaint for rock chips then no problem.
You will get rock chips on the front and rear bumpers, the rocker panels, the hood, and the rear view mirrors. Wear them proudly as battle scars or have the best paint shop you can find paint them. Owners who like protective film and those who just repaint periodically are about evenly split. Nothing is going to rust, so up to each individual owner what they can stand in the way of chips.
Someone needs to post up the doc in PA with a 550 and 355 Challenge, maybe 308 something. The front of his 550 was cool.

Fore somebody it has been just the right car.… Despite milage, options - which seems to be very important in the US, not here in the EU.... Bought mine with 15‘ miles, I saw the car, perfect - just for me. Practically no options, but exactly my color combination.... (blu pozzi with crema interior). Just one previous owner… Had an alternative car available at that time… 5‘ miles less, cheaper...., but wasn‘t my color....
Finally found the perfect 550! Thanks to everyone here for helping me out. Would have never been able to pull the trigger without all the info from the forum and all of you! Thank you! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks! Newport Beach. And I was told, for whatever it’s worth, that it’s the nicest or one of the nicest 550s in terms of condition by both the PPI inspector and the head of service at Newport Beach Ferrari. Who knows... but it’s by far the nicest I’ve seen out of all the 550s I’ve looked at. I’ll try to add some more pictures this weekend
