Here we go again! Drove my 99 550 hard yesterday and woke up to a puddle of coolant. Was leaking from the front lower part of bonnet. I removed tray and found water dripping down radiator. Looks like I sprung a leak somewhere in the middle of radiator and its working its way down. Does anyone know of a reputable radiator shop in Los Angeles that can repair the leak hopefully
@DPA360 you can see several of the recent comments by @Mirek on his 456 in the greater LA area.... search comments by him as commenter Hope you get her fixed soon.
I appreciate it!! Didn't realize these new oem radiators were so expensive, nuts! 5-6k come on Ferrari tax is REAL. Has anyone had any experience with this company https://cgj.com/product/fer-0800-aluminum-ferrari-radiator. 1k for a new non oem radiator.
1- I would pressure test to find the leak 2- if you can take the radiator out David's radiator in harbor city
I ran it with radiator still in car at idle and you can see it dripping down the middle of the fins. Do you know what material the radiator is made out of and if they are easy to weld. Lastly I installed the updated spal fans 2 months ago drove the car a bunch of times afterwards with no leaks and all of a sudden yesterday big leak. Wondering if the fans can have possibly rubbed up against fins and caused leak or just a coincidence. TIA
That sucks. I know the feeling man. You are going to have to take it out, have it re-cored and likely welded. Put the number $3,000 in your mind. I have been through this 5 times in the past 4 years here in LA and can give some solid feedback on what has and has not worked and where it went. I just had it repaired again this month actually, they painted it which was a nice touch. DM me if you wish. I noticed yesterday my car ran VERY hot after sitting for a while and restarting. I hope that is normal. Definitely get the aero-harness if you already upgraded your fans/motors.
I appreciate that! Looks like I will be recoring it. Found a super nice guy who does a lot of ferrari's apparently so hopefully IM in good hands! Tom's Radiator & AC Services in orange, spoke with Randy his son, very knowledgeable and friendly. Will keep everyone updated
I will be pulling radiator out myself in a few days. From what ive read here on the forum is basically unplugging and removing both fans then loosening 2-4 screws that will let oil radiator and water radiator come out together as one unit is the easiest way. If anyone can chime in with any other steps or better ways to do it I would greatly appreciate it before I attempt
What are you putting in it and how often are you changing it? Since they started building them (456/550) I have replaced one radiator due to poor service history and one at customer request. All the repairs were limited to dragging damage and not one even required removal. And unlike you guys I have no clients with heating issues and have never modified any?????? Maybe its time to evaluate service methods. Where I lived in California and where I live now 100+ temps are routine.
I had them make up a couple race car radiators and the workmanship and customer service was fine. They were based on a sample I sent them. Of course that's a long way from making a radiator that will fit your 550, but they certainly seemed competent. Besides the ladies you talk to on the phone have an accent that is straight out of....well, Alabama.
