I have recently learned that some 550's were factory-equipped with what look like 15 or 20 mm spacers for the rear wheels (with Ferrari logos on them and longer lug bolts) that visually make the rear wheels fill out the wheel wells. As many of you know, without these spacers, the rear wheels kind of look a little lost in the wheel wells. Well, I have seen one with my own eyes with spacers, and I love it.

Does anyone here have them on their 550? Is you car US or Euro?

Any idea where I can get said factory spacers & bolts?

    Thanks.

I know Lee (sfumato) has spacers on his 550. Looks very sharp. I think he said 30mm?

I think the spacers are on the European addition.

    Not sure.

    Dave,

15mm spacers with longer bolts is the most popular size that we sell to 550 owners.

    Thank you, Paul!

Who makes the spacers & bolts? What sort of metal? I ask because I track my 550 aggressively & often, in Texas heat.

    Thanks,

    Dave

Stupid question: what are the potential negatives of using a spacer if one gets appropriate size / grade of metal / bolts, etc?

Other than you're ging to blast more rocks against the back fender... :D

    Dave,

We make the spacers & bolts at our factory in London. The spacers are made from high quality aluminium, machined within a thou on critical limits (including parallelism, squareness and concentricity) & anodised for protection. The bolts are made from high quality alloy steel. We have an independent test report (MIRA) that shows that our bolts are 24% stronger than the stock bolts and I would be more than happy to email you a copy.

    Cheers

    Paul

    Howdy Dave,

Wheel spacers have ALWAYS been a point of contention with the open track technical committees with whom I’ve worked. Some banned them completely as we witnessed too many fatigue bolt failures and wrecked cars. There is no question that poorly manufactured, or poorly fitted spacers will absolutely result in catastrophic failures at the track. Similarly, high quality spacers of reasonable thickness, combined with fresh high quality lug nuts (inspected often) torqued properly have been proven to be safe. ( I hope we all remember to NOT repeatedly torque a nut/bolt….you actually want to loosen the nut/bolt and re-torque……right guys??!)

    Good luck!

    Roy
