The number of the car in the series of the model is not related to the last set of the vin#.. It is the model number which can be found underneath the hood???

    Is this correct?

If so, can someone help me determine which number my car was if the model # is 31063. I know there were about 3083 total made..

    Sean,

The easiest place to look is on top your steering column. You'll find a VIN plate there. Your car's serial number is the last six digits of the VIN.

You might be confusing the assembly number with the serial number. The assembly number has five digits.

Sean- Assembly Number, only a superficial relationship to the VIN/Serial Number (last 6 of VIN). Here is where it is courtesy of Carbon. Assigned when a Ferrari actually reaches the assembly line. Important for ordering parts.

So if my last digits on Vin are 113664 what number is my car in the production series. Don't they go every other number (remember seeing that before somewhere)..

    Thanks in advance.

There is no relationship. The number sequence is not reserved for a particular model

Sean- For your other question, Ferrari used to use even numbers for competition models and Dinos and odd numbers for production Ferraris. At SN 75000, they switched to using even and odd numbers for the production models.

VINs are assigned when a car is ordered and assembly numbers are assigned once she hits the assembly line. During 550 production, Ferrari also produced F355s, F50s, 360s, 456s, and 456Ms, all of which are mixed into the VIN and assembly number sequences. So neither number tells you anything about where in the model production sequence a particular Ferrari sits. Probably the best indicator would be your transmission number. Ferrari tended to assign those sequentially when a new model with a new transmission was introduced. Your OM will show you where that is located. Download an OM from ferraridatabase.com and you will not have to keep digging it out of the 550.
