Does anyone see a trend in service or items that have need to be replaced by year? Is the 98, 99, an up different? I have seen may 98 and 99 with shock, and check engine light issues. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
The only real difficulty Ive had with my 2001 550 is the re-occuring CEL. It never seems to effect the driving, and all gauges and everything seem quite normal, it's just a pain to have to take it to the dealer to have it reset all the time. Once it was an O2 sensor, once it was a loose fuel cap, the other times it just seemed to crop up for no real reason. Even after hooking it up to the computer, the dealer can't always say for sure what a particular error code means. It must have come on about 6 times in the last year and a half, in only 3000-4000 total klms of driving. Apparently, they set the tolerances too low on the ECU, so any little data input that is ever so slightly out of range will set it off....yuck!
This is not exactly the same question, but still very informative. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4345&page=2 DOODY put a spreadsheet together of the maintenace costs for a major servicing. Hope it helps anyway.
That was great data regarding major service. I am really looking for feedback on issues between 97-99 vs 00-01. Have there been any know issues aside of rims, hoses and the stearing box on the 90's 550's. Was Ferrari able to update the later models with anything? I have seen items such as shocks, and motor mounts go quickly on the earlier 550's Have any of you owned a 97-99 then a 00-01 and noticed a difference in issues with the cars?
