i'm looking at a 550. the leather on the airbag section in the center of the steering wheel looks to be bubbling. one quarter size bubble and another spot forming. is this common ? can this be fixed? refinished? or ?

    thx

it is common. ime, it'll actually ebb and flow with heat and humidity. the more humidity, the more bubbling.

fyi - the passenger side airbag cover wil often "warp" as well.

my guess is that the covers for the airbags aren't made of hard metal (duh), but rather cardboard or some such - so the leather doesn't have anything really hard to be stretched over. so they glue it - or just hope for the best.

no data on rectification - i assume screwing with the airbag is a PITA.

    doody.
