When I want to replace item #50 hydraulic line, do I go in from above or below.

If above would you feel that the driver side airfilterbox should go?

Below. And you'll have to lower the rack to get to the banjo bolt at that end. You'll have to disconnect the steering column from the rack and remove the mounting bolts - then you can lower the rack enough to get to that bolt. At least that's how I did it. I couldn't see any way to get to that bolt with the rack in situ. I also removed the airbox because I rebuilt my pump at the same time. Made life easier.

BTW, don't pay > $700 for a hose from Ferrari. Bring the old one to a local hydraulics shop and have them replace the rubber hose for 10% of that.

Thanks Tom. Always something. What a hard life.

I have a Parkers service station not far from me; they indeed do hoses for a dime without Ferrari tax.

You rebuilt your pump? Where do I find the rebuilt kit?

Only $20. As long as the vanes and housing aren't damaged this will reseal your pump. The 550's ZF pump is super easy to rebuild. Also make sure you replace the copper crush washers on the pressure line. I stupidly didn't and had to do the job twice.

Thanks. Wouldn't you know. I have got a ZF service station 20 kms froom me ;o)

Anything else I should be mindfull off?

What about the fluid in the pump. Do I have to prime the pump with ATF prior to installation or is the top up bottle enough?

I just assembled and filled the system. This was the bleeding procedure I used, found elsewhere in this forum:

    1. Filled system.
    2. Engine off, ran steering lock-to-lock 4 or 5 times.
    3. Topped off.
    4. Started engine for 5 seconds
    5. Engine off, ran steering lock-to-lock 4 or 5 times.
    6. Topped off.
    7. Repeated 4 thru 6 3 or 4 times.
    8. Started engine and ran lock-to-lock a few times, topping off as needed.
9 Test drove, topping off afterward.

The other thing you might consider is replacing the fluid reservoir as it has a non-replaceable filter in it. It's the same as an E92 BMW, I put the BMW part number in the parts interchange sticky at the top of the forum a while back.
