sometimes i wish my steering response was just a bit tighter than it is. anybody know if there's any real way to mess with this? it's not loose. there's no play. i'd just like it to be a little bit more direct and sharp and tighter (if you know what i mean). doody.
Doody, I tried to inquire about this, and was told there's no way short of FHP. I will get more details if you like to see what the difference is. --Dan
Doody, I'd suggest the true solution to this problem is the addition of a CS to the stable. Much better handling than the regular 360 and a world different to the 550
hey dan - i'll be sure to send you an email to let you know when you're being helpful anything in your in-box yet? doody.
Dude Man, when I was looking about a year or so ago, I ran across the Marshall Field car. He brought a 97 USA car and had the F package installed, I think at WWOC. If I recall correctly, it cost him about 20 grand. I can't honestly say that I know him all that well. But, if you like, I can email him and see if he remembers where he had the work done. Try adding 4 PSI to all 4 tires, if this is not sufficient: Your front toe should currently be in the -0.25mm range. Drop this towards -0.12 range and add a touch of camber (add -0.1 to -0.2 degrees) to the front wheels and add -0.1 to -0.2 camber to the rear wheels (but leave the rear toe alone) and add 2 PSI to the front wheels (fron standard pressure). Nulling out the front toe will enliven steering response. The only real trick here is to avoid zero toe, stay a little on the - side (street) or a little on the + side (tracks). Adding camber will increase grip at the expense of tire wear.
That's one thing I love about this Maranello. In fact I like it better in normal mode rather than sports mode, IMO it is tighter in sports mode
It is a funny comment because I find the steering response of the 550s (at least mine and the 4 or 5 others I drove) to be quite direct, a lot more direct than a 355. A 360 is a tad more edgy/jumpy, a world of difference with a 355 in this regard. Now steering response does not mean feel, but I never pushed the 550 as hard as the 355 to be able to tell how you can sense the grip limits in the front, an area where the 355 gets a commendable rating. Still, this does not solve your question to get a tighter response. I did not see much difference between a 550 and a 575 in this area so not much hope there I guess.
