My 98 550 passenger sun visor has broken inside resulting in not staying up in position. My Ferrari dealer say's there is a repair kit for 575's with this problem, but not 550's. A new visor is about $700, but my dealer isn't sure it won't suffer the same fate. It seems to me that the visor has a plastic sleave around a metal shaft with some kind of cam and spring to keep it up. On my visor that plastic sleave has broken in the middle. Anyone out there have any experience with this? thanks for any advice. 550Bryan

I had the exactly the same problem about one month after taking delivery of my new 550 in '97. The warranty replacement took about three months to be delivered. While waiting for it, I placed a strip of velcro to the visor and the roof. It took a strip about four inches long for the visor to be held in place. When I didn't need it anymore, the velcro strip came off the roof without leaving a trace.

Hansw, Thanks for the reply. I'm actually using velco to hold up my visor as you did. Obviously, it's a problem with 550's, so I was hoping someone had identified a fix short of replacing the visor. I encouraged if your visor was replaced in 97 and hasn't failed again since. If I have to spend $700 for a visor, I want to believe it just won't break again, a strong possibility according to my service manager. Thanks again 550Bryan

I still have the car - still love it - with 33,000 miles on it. Haven't had a visor failure since that one in '97.

Same thing with my 360. So the shop smashed what looks like some copper tubing into the sleeve to give it some more substance and it sort of works. I didn't want to pay the $600 for a visor.

Same thing was present on mine when I bought it (used 2600 miles) - the PPI actually revealed it and I asked that it be replaced or fixed as a purchase condition. The seller said yes. it was not fixed when I picked it up. The seller tried to get it fixed by having a shop open it up - but it could not be fixed. They ordered a new one - thought it was $400.

Anyhow it seems to be a common occurance.

My driver's sun visor is broken = won't stay in the up position. I read sometime April 2011 in FerrariChat about a guy you can mail you visor to who will fix it and return it. Since I wasn't have the problem at the time, I did not make note of it. Can anyone connect me with him?
