    The suspension light just went on on my 2000 550, with about 6,000 miles, is this critical or can it wait for the next service, is it a big deal?

    Does it illuminate ever time you start the car? It is not uncommon for the system to fail the diagnostic tests if the car is moved prior to getting the OK green light, of if switching into sport mode while driving on a twisty road.

    after searching this site a little more extensively, i have found a lot of information on this issue, now i will see if i can fix it.

    the consequence of the warning light is suspension default to sports mode : hardest setting. Frankly the difference is not that much and you can get it sorted at next service... or not if you feel the asking pprice for fix is too high. may be a problem if you want to resell the car though

    Not correct from my understanding, the consequences of the light are the shock actuator staying in their last position. Neither is terminal.
