Has anyone here put wider than OEM tires on OEM Maranello rims?

I would really like a little more bite up front, esp. for track use, and was wondering if anyone here has done so? The reason I ask is that many tires wider than 255's for the front are recommended for 9" rims (according to TireRack's web site) and our cars come with 8.5" rims up front.

    Thanks in advance!

    Since you asked so nicely..........

    On standard 8.5" wheels?

Have you tracked the car with that set-up yet, Stephen? The reason for my question is that tracking a 550 puts hugr lateral pressures on the front tires' sidewalls. If the wheel is too skinny...well, you get the idea.

    Thanks in advance.

Not on the track yet, but given it a fair hiding on the same roads we use the bikes, which are harder on tyres than the track, from experience. I was initially concerned, but a friend of mine in the tyre business, who is extremely anal about fitment, wouldn't put a 255 on an 8" rim for me previously, but said the 265 would be no problem.
