CHECK THIS OUT! http://blogs.yahoo.co.jp/saurus_884_racing/folder/772107.html?m=lc&p=1 A guy on f-talk posted this. He was saying that it produced around 1000 horsies. I can't read Japanese but the pics speak for themselves. The twin turbo 550 is on page #5. You gotta love the guts the Japanese owners have. These guys are always modifying their rides. Have a look at the modded water pump, nice hu. They are running FIVE plates on each side of the limited slip dif! CRAZYNESS!!!! I LOVE IT! Be sure to go to the other thread pages. LOADS of kickass pics!
Cool. I'm impressed since there are only a few Ferrari's having that much horses! I want to see that beast run!
under the hood shot is simply amazing...i know what im dreaming about tonight btw are there any vids of this please say yes!!
I went to talk to the tuner last week (Mr. Hayashi at Garage Saurus in Saitama) The owner is actually Indonesian! The car went away a while ago back to Indonesia. Then, Jean Todd (sorry if I spelled wrong) the team manager of Ferrari came to drive it after the Australian GP!!!! And guess what, he boosted the **ck out of the thing(most likely more than supposed to), and broke the head gasket. heee that must have been over 1200hp. haha. he said there is probably no chance to drive a car like that. So, anyway, that's cool. =) isn't it?
I wonder how many pounds of boost he was running, did Mr.Hayashi say? I'm guessing at least 20/lbs, probably more if he blew the head gasket. I still think it's awsome that the Japanese are willing to modify their cars. Errrrrrrrrr, I mean Indonesian.
I think they were runnning very high, he wasn't sure, though.. He said he tuned it to 1.3bar, so I am assuming above that..(and apparently he thinks it's over 1.5bar, soo.....) What he was more surprised about is that transmission took the abuse. haha... we needed Jean Todt to find that out for us. haha.. I think that's so funny! I think I will get the exhaust made by him next month. =)
Work of art in the engine bay. Anyone remember that tt 512BB that was posted around here last year. Similar quality engine work and huge hp but the owner could not finish it and was trying to sell it. Wonder if he was successful. Too far away and too many communication problems for my taste and I love cars like that!! We may start to see more modded 550's as they offer so much for such a relatively cheap price now.
I wouldn't "rape" an original, fully functional 550/575, but let's say if I could get hold of a dead one (blown engine, flood damage, accident damage) for peanuts (like $30,000) then I would consider a "creative restoration" of this sort... it would be great fun and it would only bring to life an otherwise dead car. And the initial investment would not be high. The only question is: how much would this twin-turbo mod cost??? I guess it won't be much cheaper than buying a new F599 at the end...
Well that is some of the finest looking engine work I have seen. So tight and well organized with great attention to detail. I would guess the conversion on a good engine would run $60k-$75k. My bet is, with 599 pirces the way they are, you could have a great TT car done and still enough change left over to pick up a 430 ;-)!!
About a year ago I could have picked up a 550 with a seized engine (all the oil blew out after a pipe was severed when it hit a bump at high speed) for the equivalent of $40,000. Apart from the engine, the car was in A-1 condition. Considering that the engine needed just about all ita moving parts to be replaced, I guess that the twin-turbo kit + rebuild would have summed up to no more than $100K; then I would also upgrade the brakes to massive ceramic-composite rotors and 20'' wheels, and I would also upgrade the suspension to Prodrive FIA-GT spec; finally, the exhaust needs to be replaced with something with much less restrictiveness. Total, I guess another $60K. The carbon bodywork parts (bumper with larger air intake, rear wing, rear underbody air extractor...) would cost another $10K. So, $40K for the donor car, $100K for the engine, $60K for the chassis upgrades and $10K for the bodywork upgrades. Result: a unique, fire-breathing 800HP (usable realistic power - I wouldn't run it on 1000HP) F550 Maranello for $210K. A car that will positively smoke any 599GTB, SLR, LP640 and even the Enzo. Wow. That must be the bargain of the century. Wish I had done it now!!!
Andrde, I am with you on that. In fact I believe that process could be done for more like $160 to $180. I know of two cars sitting awaiting the owners dreams of such a project but both are gathering dust at this point quicker than engine mods!
Amazingly I know of another 550 that suffered the same injuries, although the owner didn't press on too much and the engine appears salvageable. In the car I know, the oil sender unit was smashed off by road debris as the oil was pumped out of the engine!
now thats one hell of a 550, id leave it looking stock though, that looks too much like a race car, i like body mods on cars, ive got body mods and a carbon bonnet and my wing is carbon to but theyre stylish rather than racey, not to keen on the full out high rise carbon wings or ironing boards as i call them etc itd be alotta fun if that car looked stock to pull up next to a jap car who blatently wants to race just because you have a ferrari and just blast it right out of the sky (hoping they dont also have 1000bhp) lol
Just how do you run hard lines to the radiator without breaking them every time you start the motor? This looks like a model to me. Also look at the head paint job. Don't think that would look like that after you have run the engine for a while. And what keeps the hood from deforming with the turbos placed where they are? Just MHO and observations.
Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight Something tells me you didn't even have a look at the link. Here is the link with all the pictures, try looking at it this time, and be sure to go through all of the pages. http://blogs.yahoo.co.jp/saurus_884_racing/GALLERY/gallery.html?fid=772107
