550 doesn't require engine out for belt change.

    i assume you're talking about a 512TR, not a Boxer.

tough comparison to the 512TR. rather different cars - mid-engine vs. front-engine.

my understanding (fwiw) is that although the 550 doesn't require you to pop the engine for the major, the major is not materially less expensive since the newer parts are pricier.

I have owned both, and they are both great cars, but VERY different driving experiences. So it boils down to what you want in your Ferrari. For me personally, I despised the 550. Felt too much like a BMW or Mercedes coupe driving experience for me. I much prefer the mid-engine go-cart feel type car, than the big coupe feel. I sold the 550 after a year, so did not really get into many maintenance issues. Both great cars ........... you decide what you you want in a Ferrari.

I own a 512BB Carb, love the 512TR and M too, but I'd have a 550 over a TR or M... purely because it is such a drivable car while the TR/M are great... they're not "special" like a Carb Boxer (too many)... get a subtle colour 550 like silver or black, use it as an every day driver.

550 are cheaper to service over a 5 year daily driver term, than TR/M, but used as a toy they'd level out a bit.

    I wouldn't hesitate to get a 550 if I had the dough.....

After the 288 GTO, they're the best car Ferrari have built IMO.
