Problems with valves on 550/575/456

    Question: Have any of you experienced issues with your valve guides? Reason for this question is that a recent post and article by Michael Sheehan in SPM discussed have the valve guides done. I have never experienced this with a 550/575 low or high mile car(355 yes!).

    If so, please elaborate...

    If not, also please state...


    I have not had any issues with either my 550's or 575's that I have owned.

    What was the cost to repair them?

    This is news to me as I had the top end pulled on my 98 550 and the valves were perfect with 30K on the car?

    No valve problems here ('97 550).

    No issue with my 1999 550, and seemingly no issues with other local high mileage >35K cars.

    Interesting poll results. About 10% show valve problems. I would suspect, this number is over-reported in this venue, since folks *with* problems are likely to seek advice/help such as these forums and would migrate here.

    Speaking as someone who is undergoing a valve-job as we speak, I'd say my case is an (unfortunate) rare and isolated incident.

    '01 w/ 21752 miles, no valve guide issue. How would I know anyway ?

    Having read these threads carefully, milage seems relevant, many of the cases the problem emerged at or after 20,000 miles.
