it worked for me but i would give it a 1 or 2 star rating i don't think the guy in the 550 gave it the right 'foot' he just pretended to go fast and then slow down again
A touch of denial there. I have heard loads of -ve stuff about the Gallardo on this site. I actually think its a great motor and am not surprised it maybe quicker, although the test may be crude and nontechnical. The G is looking more consistent than the F430 in shape as well what are them Rear mirrors about on the F-car. Do prefer 430's steering wheel with starter button though. I reckon for ave drivers the loss of feel on 4wd is more than compensated by the stability feel at the limits, special in bad weather. I am vacilating away from F430 to a G. Its great that Lambo will keep Fcars honest, we will all benefit.
Great video! I noted a comment by the driver of the 550, his engine hood light came on at about 150 - 160 mph. I have the same problem. My hood light comes on at about 160 mph. Loosing the hood at 170+ would suck!
why dont you pop some hood pins in there. you can get a set off a wrecked fox body mustang on ebay (that would make a great photoshop)
great video, i like the guys facial expression when he hit the throttle in the maranello. Mine was the same exact thing.
dammmmm, maranello got its ass whoooped, didnt think the gallardo ppulled that much complimenti a Sant'Agata
BTW isnt that gallardo still in first gear at 50mph?i remember tiff needels review and said the gallardo hit 110kmh in first!!!
It appears in this "race" that the 550 starts in 3rd gear, which at 50MPH is well under the torque peak. I drop back to 3rd overtaking at 70mph, which drops you right onto the torque peak. I suspect in the 1st race he may have even tried 4th gear, which would explain the differences between the two runs and why the Gallardo humiliated him. The truth is that there is 0.5-1sec difference between these cars. Yes the gallardo will win, but not destroy the 550, if driven properly.
550 was in 2nd as well, the reason the second run looks closer is for "video purposes" i gave him a little bit of a head start. cars aren't really very close acceleration wise
I have run my 550 against a Gallardo (I had one of each for a short time) and while the Gallardo was quicker, it was only marginally so, from my experience. That's either a gun Gallardo or a dud 550. I think someone better step up to the plate and accept Robs offer for a video rematch to restore the F car pride!
"I have run my 550 against a Gallardo (I had one of each for a short time) and while the Gallardo was quicker, it was only marginally so, from my experience. That's either a gun Gallardo or a dud 550." How do you know it was only marginally slower ? Did you have someone in the G car race you in your 550 , or did you ever run against a G in your 550 ? From my experiance , i have been in cars that i thought were fast until i put it next to another car only to realize they were not running as hard as i thought. From where the power band on the G car is at i would think from 60 to 140 it would easily beat the 550 as shown. Please stop with the " i think it was in 3rd " crap as well people. Which race was it in 3rd ? The first one or the second one ? If you had just got destroyed starting out in third don't you think you need to be in second gear on the next run ? Or do you just say we'll , i will start in 3rd again and get blistered twice ? Please ! No car guy whether it be a porsche or a pinto is going to get smoked then turn around and run in the same gear again or not try something different.
The driver of the 550 started in 2nd for both, but short shifted severely in the first match-up. In the second, the shifting was a bit more reasonable, though far from optimal (you can hear the filmer saying "much better" in the second clip, referring to the shifting). Probably worth noting that the Gallardo had E-gear shifting and was driven by a driver who had done a number of these road races before. The 550 was a 6-speed driven by someone who has never driven in any speed competition. Other factors to consider... the 550 has well over 30k miles without a new clutch, and it's starting to show in performance. The Gallardo is brand new. The 550 was also carrying a couple hundred pounds more than the Gallardo, adding an additional 5% to the weight compared to equivalent loads. All these things said, I think the Gallardo's probably a touch quicker under an even match of load, driver, and vehicle condition. But only a touch. Probably worthwhile having a rematch with a different driver and a fresher clutch. Set it up, rob?
you know me, i'm in! but let me know when the new clutch is going to go in, we can have some fun before it goes in the shop
To answer your questions I have raced them side by side and also compared them using G-Tech Pro, so having OWNED both cars at the same time, I do feel qualified to make this assesment.
Rob are you getting 550 or Gallardo? The Gallardo is a fantastic car, but too "Germanically ruthless" for my liking. Audi removed some of the passion and replaced it with efficiency. I prefer the 550's more communicative chassis and practicality. As an example of practicality, all driveways are an adventure in a Gallardo, which you don't discover until you take the car home.
i hope wat ur saying is true cuz when i saw that video, i didnt expect the maranello to get such a beating then i wondered how a poor modena would do against the G
