I took my 550 -00 for the first drive this year after having it in the garage since November. There has never been any problems with the suspension before, but yesterday, on my first drive, after about one minute on the road, the warning light for Suspension System came on. I went back to my garage, switched off the engine, checked the battery cable, re-started and now the light was off. Then I decided to go for a short drive again, and once again, after a minute or so, the light came on.
Does anyone have an idea what this could be ?
Is it something I could check on my own ?

    Thankful for any help,
    Regards
    Anders

    Hello Anders,

First the good news, if one of the actuators had failed or twisted off the cable you would get the error immediately upon start-up self-check.

Second, the suspension diagnostics on the 550 are particularly sensitive and it is not uncommon to get warnings, in particular if you change mode (normal to sport) while driving. My guess is that at worst you might have a intermittent connection, but I'd suggest that you drive the car with no risk of harm and just monitor the situation.

Last, I have very fond memories of visiting Malmo many times on business between 1995-2000. You live in a very beautiful place!

    Thanks for the hint.

Give me a shout if you are coming back to Malmo. you will find the best roads starting 20 km east of Malmo. They are GREAT ! Up and down, curve after curve and basically no traffic :)

I had a similar problem occur about two years ago on my '97 550 -- completely out of the blue. I never had the suspension symbol illuminate since the car was new when, one day, I got gas. When I left the gas station, the light came on. I had the system checked by the dealer. The Ferrari diagnostic system identified a bad connection in the sport mode switch. The dealer cleaned it. After that it appeared to be fixed. A day later the light came on again. The dealer recommended I drive the car a few times and observe the light. It has not illuminated since. I recommend you clean the contacts on the switch and the shocks, drive the car and observe the light.

I agree with the other member, Malmoe and environs are beautiful. Many years ago, as a teenager, I spent a summer with my family on the island of Tjoern (spelling?), up the coast north of Gothenburg (I know that's not the Swedish spelling). It was a magical summer.
