    Hi all,

we have a 550 that we are currently trying to code a new set of fobs on. We have the original pin, but it would seem that in between the vehicle being built, and us wanting to code new fobs, its had another set at some point that we don't have the pin for.

Sadly, cloning isn't an option as the car is only used 8 weeks of the year - as such it would probably lose its synchronisation, as its kept in storage the rest of the time.

I'm looking to speak to Eurospares first, to see if they have an immobiliser ecu with a working pin. If not, we'll purchase a complete new set of ecus with fobs.

There is two units for the immobiliser, and I'm unsure which one I'd need. part numbers are:

    165012: INTERFACE ELECTRONIC CONTROL STATION

168508: ANTI - THEFT ELECTRICAL BOARDS (Freq. 433 MHz)

I'm swayed to go for 165012, as the other mentions the fob frequency, and the bypass unit offered in the US looks the same as 165012.

(note: I fully understand how the pin system and key coding works, to save anyone mentioning it on here - I've seen how many threads there are on it!)

    Many thanks in advance,

    Chris.

You need to order the entire kit which comes with both units and the fobs. #12 in the parts diagram. Back in F355 days when there was a problem you had to replace everything as a matched set. I assume it is still the same.

It is possible to diagnose and fix these immobilizers.

Try talking to immofixer.com. He is a great guy and has mastered these things.

Respectfully Chris your written post demonstrates that you do not understand this system. You may want to read more of those threads. The answers you seek are given in those threads.

Carl - respectfully, I think he understand it better than most.

Chris - see this thread (in case you have any questions): http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/348-355-sponsored-bradan/519755-fobs-pin-code.html

And, here is the best advice I can give you - contact:

Specialized ECU Repair, Replacement, & Testing - Restore or Exchange your Electronic Control Unit (ECU)

Speak with Jorge. He can pull the current PIN off your immobilizer or the red fob (current, not new) if you have it.

I read in one of the posts here on FChat that the units are a matched set.

    Thanks for all the advice.

Dave, I've had a good scan through those threads - plenty of useful information in there.

I've just swapped both immobiliser units and fobs from a good 575, in the hope that this would get the car mobile again until a new complete set arrives.

All works now on the fobs with regards to lock/unlock and immobiliser switching off, but we have non-start. I've swapped the engine ecu side to side (reading elsewhere that the pin is held by one of the engine ecu), but I think this has previously been done as it still wont start. I'm assuming both engine ecu have had the pin coded to them previously. Reverting back to the original system, and engine ecu on either side, the car will start.

When installing a new immobiliser set, does this overwrite the previous pin set in the engine ecu? If it does, I can't understand how a complete used set does not. I've got the 575 donor set to enter coding mode, and one of the fobs re-learnt, so I know I've got the procedure correct. I know that once a master is coded to the immobiliser unit, it doesn't give the fast flash when the fob button is pressed if trying again - is this how the ecu sees the pin?

Hope this all makes sense! Sadly, even for us specialists out there, its one of those systems that is not fully understood until you get an issue!

Chris I think you've introduced a new variable with that 575 immobiliser, so you're getting unpredictable results.

Maybe try a 550 immo unit?

In my 550, I replaced my RH ECU with a 2nd hand LH ECU, and everything worked fine afterward.

Seems like only the 575M (and other 7.3 and 7.1.1 Ferraris) cares about the PIN in the ECU being used only once, not Motronic 5.2 on the 550. With the 575M Alarm ECU and Immobilizer, the system is looking for a signal back from the right Motronic DME to match the one it has stored before it will start. With a 550 system, she will not turn over. With a 575M system, she will turn over, but not start. With what you have, no telling.

The 575 immobiliser won't work with your 550 ECU's as the immobiliser is coded to the ECU's.

Have you contacted immofixer in Australia as Ingenere posted earlier ?

Immofixer has sorted this out for a few people I know here.

    Cheers

Thanks Moretti and Tazandjan, that's just the sort of information I was after. Eurospares show the complete kit as being compatible with a range of vehicles, so was hoping it could be a straight swap. A new set is on its way from Maranello as I type.

Thanks again for all the valuable information you guys have given - as I've said before, until you encounter an issue like this, you don't always know how it works, and how to resolve it. We've people here with a combined knowledge of 50 years on Ferrari, but not once have they had to delve in to a immobiliser issue. Everyday is a school day!
